Just another day at a spelling bee competition. [VIDEO]

I have some beef with these local spelling bees (not the crazy hard ones), and that is the variance in word difficulty.

Mr. Troll gets "heron" (easy as fuck) and the next person gets "aptitude" - which isn't difficult, but it's certainly harder than "heron".

In Grade 7, I represented my school at a local spelling bee. I remember having to spell "ominous", which I spelt correctly, but the judge said I was wrong. The other facilitators had to correct the judge!

After that, the next word I got was "sauerkraut", and I missed out the "e". What the fuck?

Meanwhile, other people got to spell crap like "purple". :flamemad:

Edit: Yeah, I'm pretty bitter about this incident, even though it was... ~20 years ago!

hotjoint 01-27-2012 09:00 AM

Isn't there a time limit for this?

That's a lot of bitterness with mainstream spelling bee leagues. Time to go to illegal underground spelling bees.

Spelling bees should have a 20 second time limit.

van_city23 01-27-2012 11:16 AM

yah, i thought there was a time limit too. Regardless, this was pretty damn funny

bloodline129 01-27-2012 11:52 AM
