| Red light camera, turning right
I made a right turn on an intersection with red light in my direction, the camera flash went off 2 times, this was at midnight with no one around. What did I do wrong Posted via RS Mobile |

Did you come to a complete stop back behind the stop line/crosswalk, in the right hand lane etc before entering the intersection? If you rolled the stop then you broke the law and likely triggered the camera.
You must actually stop..no forward movement at all...to be considered an actual stop. I know this concept is hard to grasp, most people seem to think that rolling thru at any speed under the posted limit constitutes a "stop". I cannot see any other way, other than a camera malfunction, for the camera to be triggered.

i thought it just goes off when a vehicle passes the stop line period. regardless of whether you came to a complete stop before the line or not?

I don't think the cameras are smart enough to detect a car that stopped, then proceeded - yet I could be wrong.

You probably won't get a ticket for this.

Someone actually reviews all the photos taken by the camera and they would see the 2 pictures and will see that you were turning right so you wouldn't get a ticket. The red light cameras enforce those running through the red light but they will not enforce right turns on red I believe. I also don't know if it reads the speed or not cause that's the only way they can enforce turning right on a red without coming to a complete stop first. In all honesty, I do not believe you will get a ticket.

Seems the OP says he may have rolled the red and that would trigger it. They do tie a Radar reading into the process to help register speed and decide if the violator reached a ticket threshold. Believe the fine is $167.

No they don't. I've rolled through on a right turn and got caught by the camera but never got a ticket.

Don't you realize that your visibility doubles when you come to a complete stop compared to rolling through at 5km/hr? |

i've done it a million times too. At full stops they still go off if you turn right. When they review it they'll just toss it out. Don't worry about it.

I had a green light and waited for the traffic to go through and when it went yellow people STILL were driving, so I can't turn and it hit red by the time I could actually make the left turn.
But legally, I am allowed to finish my left turn if it goes red due to the traffic. Otherwise I would be in the middle blocking traffic the other way LOL.
I never got a ticket either.

also keep in mind, even though the flash went off, there is still a pretty good chance there wasn't even a camera in the box. they dont have enough cameras to have all the camera enabled intersections active.
they leave the flash active as a visual deterrent..

If you entered the intersection legally on green with the intention of turning right, (or left) and were somehow delayed because another vehicle obstructed your progress, then when you DID start moving again, (the light now having turned red) the camera would be triggered as you passed over that sensor.

| Red Light Cameras
1. Does anyone know if the cameras are now at ALL locations?
2. Are they all digital now or are some still film?
3. EXACTLY where are the sensors located in the road to trigger camera?
4. Does the one sensor trigger cameras for all directions?
5. Who comes to court to prosecute if you decide to dispute the ticket?
Thanks if anyone has good info on this.

I see many people getting tickets here ( http://goo.gl/maps/H86au) because they think that the through-light will turn green right after the green arrow stops flashing and they proceed into the intersection to wait to make their turn.
It's sneaky because there's no cross-traffic and the delay isn't present at many other intersections.

yeah, but they would only get one picture of them entering on the red and there will be no picture of them leaving the intersection so they wouldn't get a ticket right, because they turned left?

your good to go, I've noticed the flash go off when the light is red and I'm turning right. It happens a lot on the 96th ave and 128 st in Surrey. It happened several times already and still no ticket. You'll most likely get a ticket if there was a sign that said do not turn right on red light
