its just a developer mule/alpha device those are always clunky/ugly looking

as for why this over iphone/android well its different and judging from the videos it does have some unique features like the scalado camera ui thingy and the flicking keyboard and bbm certainly there will be other points of uniqueness that we'll see soon
Side note RIM is getting sued by Nokia in Germany for patent infringing (as well as HTC, Viewsonic) |
