Honors or Not

So I'm near the end of my degree, and I have an option to either pay an extra $5000 for more courses to complete an honors degree + spend an extra 8 months, or instead just change to a normal degree and save that time + money.

I have about 1 year left... How valuable are those words on paper?
Anyone have any experiences and care to share?

Thanks a lot.

Taking your time to land a great job after graduation will most likely prove to be a greater asset to you later in life than gradding with an honours degree imo. Especially since it seems everyone and their dog are getting some kind of business degree (including myself ). A prof from RRU told me that there's ~100,000 MBA graduates per year in Canada. Don't know if it's true or not but you get the point.

Get out and network as much as possible and be as active in as many different clubs/organizations as you can. Knowing people that can get you into the position you want is infinitely more valuable than relying on words that everyone else can have on their paper too.

An honors degree is not worthwhile if you are not planning on applying to grad school, period.

If you are applying to a graduate school with extremely competitive entry then it can be what helps to elevate you above the other candidates being considered, so in that case it would be worthwhile.

To pursue honors or not entirely depends on your specific plans for the future.
