Looking to buy a new HD TV

So I have decided to get a new HD TV. I came down to a few models and would like some input from RS. The TV needs to be around 50 to 55inch, Around $1200 to $1600 total.
LG 55" 1080p 120Hz 3D LED HDTV (55LW5000)
Samsung 55" 1080p 120Hz 3D LED Smart TV (UN55D6500)
Sony BRAVIA 55" 1080p 120Hz LED Smart TV (KDL55EX621)
Sony BRAVIA 55" 1080p 120Hz 3D LED Smart TV (KDL55EX720)
LG 55" 1080p 120Hz 3D LED Smart TV (55LW5700)
Most likely it will be a LG or Sony since I haven't had much luck with Samsung monitiors lately......

Open Box and a few other places have some really great prices on internet enabled high def. TVs.

I have a Sony Bravia and a Samsung and while the picture quality is pretty similier I actually prefer the menus/interface on the Samsung. It also has some features I really like though they're probably not as nessesery for a main living room TV (I love having a timer that turns my TV in my room on every week day morning to what ever settlings I like so I wake up to the news instead of an alarm clock).

Pick up the Samsung 55" 1080p 120Hz 3D LED Smart TV (UN55D6500)...

But be patient...February these models will be going on clearance and if you're lucky, you can find one at or below cost brand new.

Samsung makes the LCD panel for Sony anyways. The picture quality is brighter and cleaner on the Samsung than the Sony or LG you mentioned. It also has an amazing frameless design that makes it look like you just have an LCD screen, no bezel.

I've had 3 Samsung LCD's and none of them have had problems. My oldest Samsung is from 2006, got another in 2008 and last one in 2011. Not a single problem with any of them (knock on wood)

id go for one of the Sony's past reliability issues of the samsung and pq of the lgs (although lg's supposed to be much better these days) turns me off

since you've narrowed it down to those models you should check out their respective threads in here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=166 to get a good idea of them

BUMP

considering either a
LG LED 1080P 120 hz 55" 60LS5750
Samsung LED 1080P 120 hz 55" un55es6150 +$50

Visually they both look similar. I'm concerned about longevity and quality of the prod.
I need to figure this out by tomorrow too.

Have checked the negative reviewed on amazon and roughly 10% of purchases hate their purchase for variety of reasons (slow web apps ; magic remote is not magical etc.)

unless its a christmas present id suggest waiting for boxing day :) or even the last week before christmas sales

as for helping you decide id suggest going to the link i posted right above there (havent looked at screens, myself in ages)

I have a un55d6420 and love it. Yes the smart tv is a bit slow with surfing and apps but I rarely use it. If you have an ipad or a tablet I would not worry too much of the features of the smart tv. Picture is amazing and love the clear motion technology.

I looked at the site you posted but it's a technical spec comparison. It's good but I was more interested in actual user reviews. I found a few on Amazon for similar models.

The only app i need to work good is Skype. All the others are great but not required. How long have you had it for - any issues or starting see anything lag as time goes on?

how legit is open box?

vash13 12-13-2012 09:09 PM

got mine off of some dude on Craigslist. Can't get more sketchy than that lol. Don't have Skype cause I don't have a Web Cam on mine. No lag. The best part is I can download my movies with my sg3 and stream them wireless to the tv. Tv also plays mkv files which I was very surprised. I can also plug and external hd into the tv.

If you are looking for the best picture quality go Plasma.

That is an absolutely ridiculous generalization. That's like saying "if you want the fastest car, get a turbo". It's not technically always wrong but it's certainly not a god given truth.

If budget wasn't a concern, the best LED TVs are now better than the best plasma TVs. Period. This is some good simple reading on the technical reasons why this is possible: Plasma vs. LCD vs. LED: Which HDTV Type is Best? | PCMag.com

There have been some amazing plasma TVs over the years (think Pioneer Kuro) but the current 2012 lineup of LED products is pretty awesome. I have a 2011 Samsung 7000 series and I am very happy with it, I don't think I will upgrade until the new AMOLED products are affordable (read: not $10,000).

If I was going to get a HDTV. It would definitely be an LED. This would be the TV that I would be getting Samsung 60" 1080p 120Hz LED Smart TV (UN60ES6100FXZC). I don't care for 3D as it means nothing to me.

Yeah the 6100 is good value. The 6000 is a bit cheaper but it's way thicker and has the ugly bezel. The 7xxx is definitely a pretty real step up though if you can swing it.

It still holds true today. In the PC mag articular they take about the Sharp elite in the image quality section. It may have great blacks but it suffers from the soap opera effect. My buddy has a 70 inch sharp and the soap opera effect kills the PQ. Also many back lit led TV's have problems with local dimming. I still say that Plasma's have the best picture quality.

Going to steal this thread. I'm looking for a 40-42 inch tv to put in my bedroom. It's mainly going to be used to play xbox and watching movies. Any recommendations?

I was looking at this one 40" LED 1080p HDTV - Wide Color Enhancer | Samsung UN40EH5050F

But I don't know shit about tvs. Just saw that this one is on sale at openbox
