Great way to get attention on YouTube! Keep up the good parenting "dad!"
Destroy the laptop rather than use it for yourself or sell it off for money. You spent money on the laptop in the first place, why destroy something you paid for. Just take it away and make her buy her own and make her pay for her own internet.

a little extreme but props to him. I'd rather see this type of parenting than the "oh it's okay... I know you didn't mean to say those words" type of parenting.

At least he cares and is doing something about it, she will learn her lesson which thats the whole point. Better move then a lot of parents these days that let there kids get away with everything.

Lame, he can destroy the laptop, but he can never stop the internet! With parents like him, she'll probably never speak to him again once she's moved out. Might sound harsh, but times have changed from our parents days to present. Who at age 15 can move out, bypass highschool and be admitted to college while working as well?
Some parents need to learn how to negotiate with their kids better. Foot down my way or the highway method usually leads to kids resenting their parents later on in life which is far worse. Taking a gun to a laptop shows me exactly how narrow minded that dad was in the video. Life has many solutions, a gun is never one of them.

For immigrant parents like mine, I will NEVER in my life work as hard and go through hard ships like they did. My parents worked their ass off. Two jobs, had a mortgage, bills, and kids before they were 25. And that's just the tip of the ice berg.
It's easy for our generation to think we deserve anything. We are honestly pretty spoiled in my opinion. The thing about my parents, like most parents, is that they're very hard set in their ways. But, I truely believe it is a valid trade off for how much they have sacrificed for us today.

Its the perfect way of dealing with the situation. She went on the web behind her dads back, bad mouthin him and all he provides as a parent thinkin he wouldnt find it and guess what BAM he did.
So he in turn did the exact same thing but took away a privilege that he provided. If I had a .45 I'd do the exact same thing.
I've disciplined my daughter in very similar fashions in the past. Too many parents now a days are to LAZY and SCARED to do so. When my daughter told me she was goin to call the cops and report me for spanking her I told her to do it and enjoy foster care.
Teach your children consequences not just praises.

Do you think having your redneck dad on YouTube read out a note that you've ALREADY publicly posted is a consequence? There is no humiliation with what happened there...only remorse or regret because she lost her laptop.
Which means, making the YouTube video was unnecessary and a sad cry for attention from her dad.
And you're right, two wrongs make a right. As a parent, you should do EXACTLY what you're telling your daughter not to do...Go on the internet and make a fool out of the family.
Keep in mind, I'm not saying that he "went too far." This is nothing! She didn't even get her ass whopped...lol this is hardly punishment to me...But what I am saying, is that this is counterproductive and seems more of a desperate attempt for attention from the day, rather than an effort to discipline his daughter properly. I bring you back to the point of shooting the laptop with a gun...What good does that do? How is that more efficient than simply taken away the laptop? In fact, wouldn't it be better to give it to someone else in the family so she can constantly see what she HAD and now doesn't have? Get to see someone else enjoy a privilege that was once yours...Think about it for a second...

Since this unsuspectingly threw her into the limelight much more strongly than either of us intended, I asked her if she wanted to make her own response video, and told her I’d let her do it if she wanted to. She doesn’t like being in front of the camera, so she declined, but I’ve told her if she wants to write a response or post a video response, I’d be OK with it. It’s only fair considering the viral nature of the whole thing. So far she’s not really interested. Quite frankly it seems she’s gotten bored of it much faster than the general public has. If that changes I’ll post it here.
| Seems like a pretty decent person. The daughter seems to understand what happened and isn't too upset anymore.

First off, it's tough being a parent - really tough. Also, one needs to walk a mile in one's shoes to fully understand.
Anyway, if this had happened to me, I'd be more like looking at myself and saying, "How the hell did it get to this point?"

you can almost guess the age of the posters in this thread by their replies. kids are so dumb
i used to hate my mom more than anything when i was a teen. fast forward a few years after my brain turned on proper and i grew up, i really appreciate what she did and hate how i acted when i was younger.
