Rogers One?

Have any of you heard/signed up for this yet? Apparently it's like free skype for rogers members, you can call out / get calls in for free, unlimited. Works long distance too.

just another gimmick to get more customers or retain them. tried it a few times, but it doesn't justify rogers or any provider to shaft us with overpriced cellphone bills.

BaoTurbo 02-19-2012 08:00 PM

Is it even good? It uses data or what?

greendb7 02-19-2012 08:10 PM

Yeah I saw this icon pop up on my home screen, how does it work exactly?

zonda_s 02-19-2012 08:17 PM

i think it uses whatever you have on your monthly plan, but i could be wrong. i guess i'll find out if there are extra charges when my bill comes.

so far, i've been able to send/receive sms from my desktop using my cell number. gives me a notification too. i've also gotten voice call notifications on my desktop, but i haven't tried the voice calling capabilities they advertised. i don't have my headset hooked up to my desktop atm.

compared to free skype that's free for everyone??

sorry, i have no idea what this gimmic is from rogers, but what you said is funny for the reason i just mentioned

Basically you can call people from your computer using your phone number. The Rogers One program will show all your text messages and recently called list. You can also sync your phone book onto your Rogers One account so you can see all the names of your contacts on your computer, in case you forget to bring your phone.

jeedee 02-19-2012 09:24 PM

I'm with Robers, tried signing up for it but got a Robers error message and told me to call some 1-877 number...

greendb7 02-19-2012 11:23 PM

So when you call people using your computer does it use your phone's minutes and data? I'm assuming yes?

No.

You can use it to call actual phone numbers for free, not just skype numbers. So yeah......:rukidding:

Apparently, it is far too difficult for people to click on "Full Details" on their page. Let me do it for you.

Spoiler!

I've been using it for the past week or so (I'm in Hong Kong right now). works really well! sound quality is much better compared to skype, with very little lag. Keep in mind though this is not an app fo a phone, it's meant to be used in acomputer browser.

oh yeah, text messages work quite well too.

FerrariEnzo 02-20-2012 07:07 AM

so its VOIP calls?

JesseBlue 02-20-2012 09:25 PM

kinda like magic jack eh?

guurl 02-20-2012 09:37 PM

oh... rogers only? :(
do you think they will do the same with fido? since... rogers owns fido as well.. right

like its an actual valid product in the world of skype, facetime, msn chat, etc. if people need this service they're clearly well behind me in the world of technology, and i'm pretty damn old school

f' rogers - terrible customer service, gimmicks like this don't win customers - government intervention & lack of competition do
