Built in iPad Dash iPad 2 Gets Custom In-Dash Mount on Ford F150 Truck Hey guys, so that's just a starting point for the in-dash mount. So how feasible would this be as a DIY project. I believe that the ability for the iPad to wifi sync will be a very good combination as the iPad can be synced every night at home without having to remove it from the dash board. In that respect, a wifi only iPad may be just as good, or even better than a standard DVD dash entertainment system as the iPad has a better touch screen response and often higher resolution screen. Now if the iPad were to be the 3G model, it could also double as the GPS navigation. Would it make more sense to mount the iPad on the top of the dash, I believe that mounting it in the dash, flush with the stock paneling would give a more clean and professional look. Overall, how could this be done, would there need to be a USB powered input behind the plastics of the dash that the iPad could then plug into, thus requiring a possible major rewiring of the dash electronics, or would it be as simple as tapping into one of the power cables for say the stock radio? Does anyone see any potential foreseeable errors/hazards? |
Anything can be done...but none of it can be said in a few sentences here really. Its not as simple as just hooking up a few wires and there ya go... Also, making it look good in the dash will take lots of time and some wood and fibreglass working knowledge. If you need it installed, one of our sponsors can help you out with it. As a DIY project, I wouldn't try it! http://www.imore.com/2010/04/06/guy-...pad-dashboard/ |

I will be installing my galaxy tab into my 350z once it comes out of storage. We have some great audio products like the Audison bit1 and bit 10 that can integrate these devices with your car's audio system and still make it sound great. Look for some really innovative designs coming out of our shop over the next few months! |
Kinda off topic but what do you guys use as a filler to make sure its all flush? Im tried multiple 3M 2 part epoxys and a lot of them will peel off. Ive sanded with 80 and used adhesion promoter. |
We use a variety or fibreglass fillers as well as light body fillers. I prefer Icing because it sands beautifully and is nice and creamy to apply. |
Will you have the Galaxy Tab installed in the Z in time for the spring meet? Quote:
Uhhuhuhuh.... "Creamy" :D |
