CRA question regarding Netfile

My wife has contacted the CRA to try and get a Netfile code to submit her return. She didn't file a return for 2010, so the rep said she wasn't eligible for a code because of that. She's done taxes for previous years, but not 2010. She felt that the rep just brushed her off.

I told her to try calling again, as she might've gotten a shitty person, but before she does, can anyone confirm if she able to get the Netfile code to file her 2011 return, or is the rep right?

From my experience the first year you file your taxes you are not eligible for netfile, the following year once you gain their trust the allow you to use netfile. Just speculating but because the your wife did not file last year it may have reset and she would have file physically.

i dont think they brushed u off. tho it doesnt mention it here NETFILE -- Restrictions i believe they look at ur past year return to see if unhad a complex return etc and use this to determine if this year u shud do paper or not. since there was no return last year they cant determine this and therefore do not want u to do an electronic return. if u wanna be sure phone again (make sure u phone the specific line thats for getting your code not just general inquiries) and if they say the same thing theyre not brushing u off

Rep was right. You cannot get an access code if the previous year was not filed.
