Haven't tried it out yet but if somebody has I hope you can give your review on it.

I used it for the whole day at work. It is not meant for mouse use. A lot of the gestures make sense if I am using my fingers but not a mouse. Lots of apps are compatible so I can see myself using this everyday.

what's the minimum requirement to run this thing? i just wanna put it on a netbook i don't use to try it out lol

using it now.... a lot of ppl are gonna hate the new metro ui, its by far the most annoying thing. they are trying too hard to try to catch up to apple now.



but as I get used to it, I start to get everything done in the metro UI instead of using the traditional desktop

the current windows desktop feels like its gonna end up being like the current command prompt within windows.

Metro UI is just a layer on top from what I recall. I can simply be turned off and you'll have the regular windows interface.

No, you can't turn it off

i think the final release will have the option to turn it off... if not then its going to be a fail like vista was. With the metro UI its easier to navigate if i was using a tablet but on a regular desktop i would want back the classic style UI

Currently it just takes a simple registry edit to turn it off. As lilaznviper says there will probably be an option in the final build.

I'm interested to see how heavier duty third party softwares (e.g steam, adobe creative suite, etc) can be launched from metro UI or will they force you to go to your desktop then run it. So far we've only seen MS Office. I haven't installed Win8 yet but the apps they have demo'd at the moment seem like very simple or power friendly applications

but when more and more traditional software move to the metro app platform. no one will be using the desktop anymore and it will probably become a legacy software support.

I don't think apps like Photoshop will be Metrofied. Metro apps will be nice and simple at the start. Unfortunately Metro is not good enough to have Photoshop, a web page, e-mail and messaging all functioning at the same time because of the 2 application limitation.

Thats what the desktop is for and the beatify of metro is that it can combine two key thing such as e-mail and browser on 1 screen and have you desktop app on the other screen. It really increases productivity before I needed 3 monitors now I only need 2.

Agree. There's no point to metrofy apps like that. The standard desktop will be around for a quite a long time to come.

I am using win8 consumer preview right now...not sure why but it's slow as hell, and that green colour interface disgusts me a lot.

also I don't know if I enjoy the tile layout, it's like a puzzle I need to squeeze my eyes like an old man to read it.

EDIT, I managed to get into the desktop mode...and the START bar is gone :heckno:

just tried it for a week or so now must say no start bar is a killer it's all the "metro" ui thingy which is cool but it looses the most common aspect of windows.

Somethings that I did like was, if you had iso you can mount and burn them with out 3rd party programs, the "up one folder" icon in explore is back, just some tiny things like that

overall its not bad quick and nice the apps are cool but its really based on a touch screen system rather then a mouse, I got a HP touchsmart desktop so it worked well for me and it also supports muti-touch. Sadly not start menu will take some time getting used to, the "launchpad" on osx is much easier and prettier then windows "Metro".

EDIT: why is the colours so boring and ugly? win 7 looked a lot better in terms of "aero" effect

I don't see what's up with everybody's fascination over a start menu? Start Menu is a waste of time its not efficient. It takes me 5 seconds to load an app using the start menu when it takes me 2 seconds using Metro UI.

People under estimate the Windows key press that to bring up the Metro UI interface. If you organize it enough you can have all your start menu apps there for quick launching.

Start menu and desktop icons are a waste of space
