is it a good deal for d2s bulbs?

they are 4300k phillips 85122 new from box from germany for 60! how much do they usually go for?

!Aznboi128 03-02-2012 02:23 PM

is it 85122 or 85122+?

these new are about 100 bucks for the "+" version, the "+" version doesn't colour shift as much as the regular version.

long story short, decent price if you want a good brand and good bulb

SupraTTturbo2jz 03-02-2012 02:24 PM

these are only the "normal" version, thanks! i called stealerships and they quoted 200$ -_-. Oh and do they give you a sharper cut off than other ones? Right now i am using morimoto 6000ks

!Aznboi128 03-02-2012 02:26 PM

stealership is definitively not the way to go for bulbs

!Aznboi128 03-02-2012 02:26 PM

the different between the regular version is the colour will shift a bit more over the life span, not a huge difference

85122 - Starts out the same color as the 85122+ (4300K) but color shifts after around 100hrs to around the same color as the 85122CM (5000K ). This sacrifices some lumens.
85122+ - Starts at 4300K and stays there through out the life of the bulb. It does not color shift, it does lose lumens over time but not as much as the 85122. Many think this bulb is bluer than the 85122 but infact it starts the same yellowish whitish blue color (depening on your eyes) and stays there.

I've got like 6 of those bulbs that I never use, replaced them with higher color ones.

Bulb's won't give you sharper cutoff, it will only project the beam exactly how the projectors were factory designed in cordination with the bulb. If you want sharper cutoff, you need clear lens, custom shield etc.

Normally with aftermarket bulbs, the cutoff and beam pattern are poor because the bulbs isnt exactly 100% same as the OEM bulbs which the projectors are are designed with. If the return wire/glass/etc is off by even as small as 0.5mm, light output and cutoff will suffer because of how sensitive the projectors are.

When you are used to these aftermarket bulbs and replace with genuine OEM bulbs, you might notice a difference with width and cutoff depending on how bad the previous bulbs were.

!Aznboi128 03-02-2012 10:10 PM

I ran 85122+, 85122CM, morimoto 5k 35watt and 5k 55 watt before and all I can say is buy phillips, it has a cleaner colour and overall lumens is more (other then the 55watt)

I would suggest getting 85122+ if possible but thats just me.

Anjew 03-02-2012 11:03 PM

sharper cutoff would depend on the lens and washer

any idea how i would get a more bluish/purple flicker effect? I've done color mod to my tsx projectors. I can see a nice bluish/purple band. I got someone to drive my car behind me while i was driving about 100 feet away but the bulbs is bright white i can only see a tiny bit of blue flicker. The bulbs I am using now are 5000k or 6000k morimoto bulbs. I'll have to try out the new phillips tomrrow to see how they are. Might redo my retrofit but i rather have a pro do it. Just need to find someone that can.

!Aznboi128 03-03-2012 07:31 AM

if your using 5k and put couple of washers in then you'll get a better colour band, however with colour your sacrificing sharpness

LOL WUT?

You want more flicker effect? -_-

That's glare bruh.

Anjew 03-06-2012 11:04 PM

no that flicker effect is the cutoff bouncing in and out of your view when cars without auto leveling run over bumps or imperfections in the road. That type flicker is not the same as a flicker from a bad ballast or loose connection.

Nothing to do with glare.

Flicker effect is the color band on the cutoff shone at eye level, where you will see blue/purple for a split second when the vehicle bumps up and down.

A land rover behind me with a sharp deep purple cutoff projected their cutoff perfectly level with my side mirrors before :sweetjesus:

sickk, what projects are those? I've swapped my new philips in from the morimoto 6ks from before and the color is different. yellower light and also the flickering has no more blue where before with the 6ks i had a bit of blue/purple. Looks pink now but i havnt seen it from a distance.

Acura604 03-07-2012 06:14 AM

The TSX/RDX has amazing cutoffs ..yet the TL (04-08) has sloppy/dull cut off...argh!

Over9K 03-07-2012 08:34 AM

That blue is is annoying as fuck when someone behind you has stiff suspension.

!Aznboi128 03-07-2012 08:38 AM

fx projectors gives you that kinda cut-off pretty much stock

for tsx projectors 2-3 washers on each side would give the same result

THAT BEING SAID, the more colour you have the more annoying it is for oncoming traffic as well as people in front of you, it might look awesome because of the colour but its highly ANNOYING as well it gives you a "dull" or "spread out" cut-off.

the whole idea of projectors is you have a clear and clean cut-off so you wont blind on-coming drivers, doing this will annoying them... why a step back?

They are FX35's with TSX clear lens.

Your cutoff color changed because the bulb gyometry isn't exactly the same as the morimoto one's. Maybe that's how the cutoff is supposed to look like, unless the bulbs you got weren't genuine... There are many fakes that look like the real deal, but i guess you can look at this guide if you want. How to: Spot a Fake Philips Bulb Guide

Oncoming traffic with cutoff color shouldn't really bother people since it's only a split second, but it's what's underneath the cutoff that's scary :heckno:

Some people prefer little to no color, while others like a bit more color, whatever floats their boat right? lol

But yes, if the lens are spaced too far out, width and intensity may suffer a bit.

Did you put washers? If so how many?

They are not mine so i am not sure, but stock FX's projectors already have a nice blue cutoff. TSX clear lens just makes it deeper, more solid and sharper.

The photo is taken with the projector 100+ ft away. If that color band was at 25ft, then @ 100 ft, you won't have cutoff anymore, just a blurry mess.
