Any VQ engine, From the VQ30DE, VQ30DE-K, to the VQ35DE get incredible bad gas mileage for what they are. I have a VQ30DE-K, i average 19.2MPG. Parents have a VQ35DE, they average "Just under 20." Nissan just doesent seem to care about the gas mileage of the VQ's AT ALL. I know a couple people with 4.6 'Stangs that get better gas mileage than me.

Comparing a Mustang and an Infiniti? The Infinti is by far a nicer car, the quality is defiantly superior. If you want fuel mileage buy a Fiat.

gas mileage is not really a big problem on these vehicles for me as i was changing the spark plugs over the weekend, come to find that one of the plugs on the driver side was cover with oil. Just the top of the plug, nothing on the tip. Did some research and found that its a common problem with the G35,350 and Fx35. The oil is coming in through the top of coil and into the tube, so to fix this the valve cover gasket needs to be change.
If your vehical is still under warranty, the dealer will cover this so check before it expire.

I have a 03 Sedan and i get just over 400kms a tank, all city. Im also on 20's so it doesnt help at all. When i was riding on stock wheels i was getting close to 475-500....

Ive changed my air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, sea foamed it and it didnt really seem to help

To better improve your gas mileage just do regular maintenance. Check tire pressure, new plugs does wonders, change oil regularly etc. it is what it is...

g35 has power and torque. it is a fast machine and not a hybrid.

I never realized how bad the gas mileage on my g35 was until I started driving other cars regularly. I was always worrying about gas every time I had to drive the g35... it was actually worse than my friend's e92 m3.

$30 on my g35 would get me about ~120km, a fill up would get me about ~350km if im lucky (fill up is around $90 now). 60% city, 40% highway. I drive without AC on 99% of the time.

This is with synthetic oil change every 3 months, went through at least 10 different intakes, plenum spacer, brand new spark plugs, brand new tires, recent alignment and everything you can think of.
Also upgraded to HFCs and exhaust to true dual exhaust, which are both supposed to help with MPG. Had every single the breather mod you can think of except headers.
Even tried a useless grounding kit that did nothing except make my engine bay look messy.
Before I sold the car, I did a $600 tune (never did a tune ever since I first bought the car stock). I was expecting my gas mileage to be improved after reading g35driver threads, but all i got was ~20km extra per full tank on average.
None of these mods helped, obviously I didn't do it for the gas mileage but I was always stuck at ~350km max per full tank no matter how old the oil and spark plugs are.

Had a 2011 g37xs sedan for a loaner for 2 weeks and $30 gets me 200+km easily.

Monthly, I was spending $350 (+/- $50) on gas for 1000km (+/- 100km).

On my new-to-me car w/ a BMW inline 6 twin turbo n54 engine, I'm spending less than $200 per month for 1000km. Getting 600km+ per fill up.

How are you getting 600km per fill up with the n54? All highway?

I filled up this morning and an $86 fill up got me roughly 400kms.

All highway gets me like 680km, 80% HWY just to school and back gets me 600km.

60% city on the weekends gets me around 550km. <- I'm doing 12.3l/100km on my non oem wheels + tires. 12.6l/100km on my crappy oem tires.

I'm also not tuned like you :P
+ I usually drive like a granny.

20 bucks on 91 gets me about 85-105KM before the light goes on..(depends on if I was on the pedal or not) 6MT

Depends on how you drive and what kind of roads you drives as well as what kind of maintenance has been done.

Either way, the G35 eat a ton of gas for how much power it puts down. But it was the most reliable car I've ever had, never had to do a single repair within the ~55k km's I've had it.

Only problem for me was the gas mileage.

But that exhaust note is heavenly, best sounding stock exhaust note for the price till this day.

I've owned my share of the VQ babies. 350z, G35, FX35.

All bad on gas. I roughly got 300-350 km's a tank with each of them with your regular speed limit cruising with spirited bursts, but 90% of my driving is city. City driving won't get you into the 400's unless you drive like a granny full time.

But remember why you bought the car. When you're driving it, you don't even care. Like wonton said above, all the little luxuries and that stock exhaust note.. For the prices they go for these days, it's hard to beat. All very reliable engines. Keep an eye on your electricals though. I think I had a handful of problems on both the G and Z that I had to fix/get fixed. Door actuators, locks, window motors, sunroof, stereo, lights.

i was getting 380-400kms a tank all city on 20s. I switched back to stock 17s and now im hitting 440-460kms a tank.

That sounds impossible.

I drove my 6MT 350z w/ 17" stock wheels like a granny for 2 entire tanks and got 350km's all city. (This is when the car was 2 years old with 10k km's)

5AT coupe on 20s..avg 17mpg. mostly city.

Just did my first fuel econ run today. 2003 sedan 6mt 90% city i did 525 km to 70.4 liters which means an avg of 13.38l per 100km.

All stock except 350z 18 inch wheels.
Obama not bad had been punching it a lot trying to drift it every time it rained. (read:always)

Now filled it up with 87 octane as the manual says 91 is recommended but not required. We will see what the fuel econ looks like.

With 87 octane i managed to increase the fuel efficiency to 12.6l/100km.

I dont know why either. It is said on g35 forums that it is known fact that g35 is more efficient at 87 octane....but only if your car doea not ping like hell should you use 87 octane.

I fill up premium, shell only. I don't want to deal with knocks, or the car retarding itself to prevent itself from knocking.

Did the +2 timing mod, along with the exhaust, intake, and plenum, I will never again feel comfortable running anything besides premium.

On that note anyone in this thread who dislikes their gas consumption, remember me when you fuel up and thank the heavens your not in my shoes. I have an FX35, so imagine your gas mileage if you were towing a small boat behind you or something, thats what i get. Whatever you pay for gas trust me mines worse, and the best part about all this is my other car is a domestic pickup with a 6.0L, so I have no choice in the matter.

Slap a "Prius Repellent" sticker above your exhaust tip, and have a laugh about your fuel economy. At the end of the day your driving a really nice car, and you gotta pay to play.
