Time to buy a new Macbook Battery... Hey guys, my brother's laptop and (soon mine) will be needing a new battery. We both have the unibody 13" aluminum Macbook and the replacement batteries for these guys cost around $200. Anyone else had to replace their batteries yet and if yes, where have you gone to replace them? Eco Friendly Laptop is a local company I think, they're all over Craigslist and they're selling for about $70/battery. However they only have a 30 day warranty. Would you guys buy a 3rd party battery for your Macbooks? Thanks in advance. |
I wouldn't trust them. I'd at least go with a reputable manufacturer of replacement batteries. These guys probably just bulk buy the cheapest crap hence the 30day warranty. For myself I'd buy OEM. btw they're only $139 from apple.ca Rechargeable Battery - 13-inch MacBook (aluminum) - Apple Store (Canada) |
Non-OEM batteries blowing up is a rare event, but I wouldn't risk it. I put my laptop on my lap beside my balls every day. If that shit overheats and blows up, oh ho ho. |
unless u can't get the oem replacement, I'd never buy 3rd party battery. they never hold the original spec charge. |
If you're under applecare you might be able to get a new one from apple. |

Notebook Owners Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your replacement coverage for a defective battery to three years from the date of your notebook purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan. However, the AppleCare Protection Plan for notebook computers does not cover batteries that have failed or are exhibiting diminished capacity except when the failure or diminished capacity is the result of a manufacturing defect. |
with an expensive investment as a laptop, I'd use OEM only. I bought a 3rd party battery for my nexus s, it just doesn't hold as long and takes longer to charge when compared to the OEM. For an extra 70 bucks, i'd defs get the OEM. |
you're probably going to end up buying 2 3rd party batteries in the long run, as opposed the one you could have gotten at apple |
