Car Battery or Alternator issue?
 

When I got into my car at my work parking lot, I put my keys in and turn the ignition and all I get is "click click click click". At that moment, battery or alternator? The thing is that, my interior lights work, my radio still powers on, so its probably can't be a battery??

Eventually after a few tries, I managed to start my car. Could this just be a weak battery then if I managed to get it to start? I am using a Canadian tire battery on my 2002 Civic, it's been over 2 years old now the battery.

Any insights? Much appreciated in advance. I will probably have to get my buddy to do some voltage test on the battery to see if the battery is weak, maybe that will help solve this.

Battery. Get it checked out for voltage level.

You could have a parasitic draw. (ie a charger that has been left on).

You just have to take your battery to CT and they have a bench that they can test the battery there right away

Is your battery indicator light on?
If it is, that would indicate an issue with the alternator.

If not, it's almost definitely the battery.

The thing is that, my battery is less than 3 years old. I guess those Canadian tire, motomaster stuff don't last too long =/

I had the same issue, its most likely battery since there is enough power to have your dome lights lit up, indicators light up on dash but still not enough power to crank or start when turning ignition.

However my issue happens cause I store my car for winter, but if you been driving all day and after work you restart, nothing happens, just click click click...then possibly your alternator isnt helping with charging the battery earlier.

Get someone to jump start the car or portable booster, then go to canadian tire and buy a volt meter to see if battery is low. And if warranty is still valid, yay!

I just found my receipt and I still have warranty. Wow, the battery isn't even 2 years old yet; bought in 2010 LOL. I'll bring it to CT tmr morning and get them to check the battery and hopefully it's a weak battery and get a new one.

It could also be the diode of your alternator is failing.. your car in the end is 10 years old.

When you get the battery from CT.. make sure it is fresh by checking on the production date... before you walk out of the door.

when u get the new batt, get her fired up, check the voltage at the alternator , if you're not getting at least 14.5ish volts ur alternator's going

make sure to get it checked out at a reputable shop, it could be a bad battery, or it could be your alternator, or you could have a draw as someone mentioned. there are many problems that can cause a dead battery, and it takes some special shop tools to do it quickly and effectively.

it only takes a few minutes with a good AVR to load test your battery and check the output of your alternator, after that a draw test is another real quick test that can be done to make sure you don't have any problems down the road.

hope you get it figured out, just don't warranty the battery and think everything is fine :)

if your battery became weak, that means the alternator wasn't charging the battery or damaged it somehow...

this cold be as simple as a loose wire connection too...
