If so, is it worth the time.?

Lets say if i just drain the oil, how many percent of the old oil is still stuck in the torque converter?

I think as long as you follow the recommended intervals per the manual and just do a change you should be fine. In that video it seems like the fluid hasn't been changed in a while. I just did a change after 2 years per recommended interval and the fluid came out really clean.

just buy dexronIII... the synthetic stuff makes little to no difference in your particular transmission... so long as teh fluid is changed regularly...

if i serviced my own car, and the fluid was dark or dirty, i would change the transmission fluid every oil change and just do a drain and fill every time, and the fluid should come out cleaner each time... your particular transmission is a pretty straight forward to service... and after 4 or 5 drain and fills, if your transmission fluid is nice and clean again, at your next service, remove the transmission pan and clean the goop off the bottom... i would recommend purchasing a transmission pan gasket from your local dealer, or parts store... i wouldn't bother with the "filter kit" that most parts places sells... those filters are JUNK and often times break down clogging up the small orafices in your transmission...

i recommend against doing the flush in this video. if you make any mistakes, you're in for a very very expensive repair bill... removing and replacing your transmission is a full day job for an experienced mechanic...

if i didn't service my own car, but my transmission fluid was dark or dirty, i would take it to my local dealership and have them do a full transmission fluid flush... probably run you about 2 browns with an oil change...

hey my point of view for this whole transmisson flush.

in that video is a great way of doing a transmisson flush ONLY if you had experience doing so.

for honda they have internal filters, it is best if you do a drain and fill on them.

and transmission fluid intervals are usually every 40,000km or so.

Transmission fluid change intervals are normally between 65,000km to 80,000 in normal driving conditions, server driving conditions it is recommended every 40,000km.

That is what it says in my Honda Manual for my Civic and Accord .

i think best is to remove the pan, replace filter , clean O ring , fill with new oil. drive 20k , and drain n flush again.

drain/fill / flush - does not clean all the crap in the pan.

All I did to service my transmission was drop the pan, change the filters, refill how much fluid was lost through the tranny dipstick and that was it. Mind you, my fluid looked practically brand new so I didnt bother with a flush after the fact.

Unless shit is breaking down in your transmission, there shouldnt be "crap" to flush out.

1. Be clear what kind of transmission you are talking about, ones with Torque convertor or Clutch or CVT.. all require different maintenance and procedures.
2. Use only the type of fluid recommended by the manufacturer, don't go willy nilly purchasing random oil, because they might not be compatible.
3. Newer cars have ECUs inside the transmission itself. If your car is one of those, make sure you have the diagnostic computer to reset / clear codes / read the running conditions of those transmission.
4. Colour of fluid don't tell the whole story as even the cleanest oil oxidizes and change colour over time and temperature fluctuations.. get an oil sample and get it analyzed, if there are leaks or gear grinds, it will show up.
5. The best way to change oil takes a lot of time and patience especially automatics.. having a car lift really helps (doesn't have to be a full height one, just ones you can fit in a dolly to hold the pan + oil)..
6. The best way to extend the life of a transmission? Drive carefully, be aware the operation and condition of the transmission and don't abuse it.

if you maintain the vehicle regularly, should need to flush. just regular drain and refill should be sufficient.

if its a toyota tranny, either dextron III or toyota type iv fluid.

if its been a while, go get it flushed at the dealership.

flushed my gs tranny a month after i got the car. i requested they to do it twice, used up 24L of tranny fluid because i wanted to try to get as much out of the converter as possible.

I change mind every 20'000 so I don't see why need a flush.

i dropped the oil pan as RS members advised me to do so... and dam it is very gross and dirty :heckno: i'm gonna change it every 20,000k just to make sure my tranny last as long as the engine =]
