Having a date or no date didn't mean anything in my school because everyone just grinded the shit out of each other later...

For me, my date and I rode in same limo with 10+ other friends, walk into four seasons hotel ballroom together with the same 10+ friends in the same limo, exchange few words while eating dinner with the same 10+ friends, and then parted ways in the dance floor.

Looking back, I only asked a girl to be my date because it seemed like it was the standard thing to do... even without a date I could have had equal amount fun.

So if being dateless is the only thing holding you back, its seriously not a big deal.

Since you're on the fence about it you should go. You only miss out on the chances you don't take. No one will stop you from leaving if it turns out to be a shitty time.

Might as well go since it's once in a lifetime. The date thing didn't matter, we just went as a group of friends. Not many people brought in outside dates anyways. Food sucked crap (Four Seasons), and it was mostly the girls dancing while guys were standing around. Yes it was a waste of time and money, but it only happens once so you might as well go.

My prom sucked ASS.. Good thing I didn't pay to be in the limo crew (it was very expensive from what I had remembered.) I, too had access to a family member's Lexus. We ditched the dinner early, and we cruised to Cypress and had a few smokes. Drove back to my friend's place (her family invited the entire GR12 class for an after-grad party) and had one of the best times of my life. This was also the first time in my life where I approached random girls and initiated a conversation.

Holy s*it, I just realized this is our 10yr anni for our Gr12 class.. :(

It only happens once (unless you're dating a high schooler..) so go. Otherwise you might always end up wondering how it would've been. Date or no date, doesn't matter. A good 50% of the people there are dateless anyway.

Go, it is one of those "once in a lifetime" events, but don't put too much weight into it. Highschool is not life. It's fantasy life.

Once you get a bit older, you'll realize that, whether or not you had a good time, it would be a good memory to have. Don't stress about it!

The following is a reply from the anonymous member

I think you guys are right, I am leaning towards going to "enhance" my social skills at parties just for the future..... Only thing I'm scared of is HER being there, dancing around with other guys *sigh*..

Ah ha... now, we get to the root of the issue.

whatever you do, will still be better than prom in the cafe :alonehappy:

A few of you here will know what i mean

OT: You really have nothing to lose going. Just have fun.

unit 03-22-2012 09:20 PM

i didnt go. didnt care, still dont.

cowncow 03-22-2012 10:18 PM

:fuckyea: caf prom was awesome. cheap tickets and the same shit friends from other schools mentioned.

judging from your post, you seem well liked in your graduating class. probably more popular than you think! when you see everyone that you've spent years with in suits and nice dresses, you'll feel ecstatic about being all grown up.

and don't worry about a date.. best be going single and doing whatever the fuck you want without being chained to one table/group.

hope you have fun and tell us of your adventures if you don't go!

LiquidTurbo 03-23-2012 06:41 AM

I didn't go. Life goes on. In a couple years you won't care.

This.

Marioo1991 03-23-2012 01:16 PM

i didn't go, but I had the after prom party at my parents place so I didn't really miss out. I think it depends on how much you value these sort of moments in your life. I never looked back with regret that i didnt go, even when I look back when I got married 2 years ago I couldnt care if I got married like i did or just went to vegas.

Ulic Qel-Droma 03-23-2012 07:49 PM

think of it this way.

if you don't go to prom, you'll probably be at home or doing some other usual activity.
usual activities, usual outcomes, nothing special nothing memorable.
0% chance of something cool or anything happening that night.

if you go to prom.
time invested is a few hours at a minimum.
if it sucks u can go home after.
if something happens, you can stay and find out or follow the excitement wherever it leads you.
if you go, chances of something extraordinary or memorable is higher than 0%.

if you have good friends you can chill with, just go chill with them. that's what i'd do in your shoes.

not having a date isnt a big deal. its nothing shameful either. its just... completely neutral in my view whether you have a date or not.

prom is one of the last times you'll ever see many of these people outside of a school environment (or ever for the rest of your life).

i'd leave it up to chance of adventure, than doing "nothing".

see.lai 03-23-2012 08:48 PM

prom was the best shit ever. or i mean after prom
