New laptop suggestions
 

So recently, my laptop stopped working and now I'm looking to get a new one. I was planning on getting ASUS N53SV-DH71 Core i7 2670QM 15.6IN HD 750GB 4GB GeForce GT 540 WIN7 Silver HDMI USB3 Notebook - ASUS - N53SV-DH71 or ASUS K53SV-DH71 Core i7 2670QM 15.6IN HD 750GB 6GB GeForce GT 540 WIN7 Mocha HDMI USB3 Notebook - ASUS - K53SV-DH71. I am unsure of which one to get so I need opinions on why one is better. I only plan on using this laptop for school, and maybe a little gaming. If you have another laptop in mind, show me but I only really want an Asus. TIA

I dont see much difference between the two, except for the ram which isnt going to make a huge difference.

Now its about the looks between these two.

The K53 may be a bit better on battery life but the hard drive speed is a tad bit slower. The two balance themselves different attributes. These will likely be able to support your subtle gaming needs. ASUS provides excellent warranties also, so your best bet may be to go with ASUS.

new 600M Series cards were released today by Nvidia.. so I'm not sure how much of a rush you're in, but laptops with the new cards should come out soon

Not Asus, but same nearly same price for a GT555M instead of the weaker 540.

If I wasn't in the market for a lighter notepad I would have picked up the Lenovo y570 already. Awesome unit for this price, and much better for gaming then the asus's.
Actually for me I want the y470p (14" version with a better video card yet). You can order one of these off the canadian lenovo website right now for 799. It's on special until they run out of stock I assume.

Despite having a slower cpu the set up with the 640m video card can run Battlefield 3 on high. Which exceeds the abilities of all the laptops posted in this thread.. It "should" be available for around $1000


edit: if you're bent on a asus the N53SV would be a better choice.. it's got a faster hard drive and it's easy/cheaper to upgrade ram..

Right now i'm thinking #1 or #3. #2 is 0.8kgs heavier than the rest, so i don't think i'll be picking that one. and between #4 and #1, I'd rather have the faster processing speed from #1 than the extra HDD space on #4 since I have an external one to use if needed.

n series are more multimedia laptop, better speaker but I find it to be too big and heavy
I dont like k series, quality isn't par with other lines from Asus.
I think both laptops are too big and heavy for school
Check out U series. Slimmer, lighter. Specs are not much different.

care to explain why? I need some convincing before i pull the trigger cuz it's a little more than i want to spend and i seems like it's only a little bit of an upgrade compared to the rest. But maybe there are many things good about it that i don't know, making the extra cost worth it.

All 4 of your choices are practically the same. #3 stands out obviously cause of the faster processor.

is the processor on #3 that's a little bit faster worth the extra $80 though? or is that little boost in processing speed insignificant and I should just save the $80. The difference in harddrive space is insignificant to me because I have an external harddrive at my disposal.

It depends what you will be using the laptop for. If you only do documentation work and internet browsing, you won't have any problems with I3.

It's a large boost if you do cpu intensive stuff. The core i5 is clocked faster and also has turboboost to give additional performance.

For $80 the i5 is worth it over the i3. If you ever use photoshop or anything like that you will notice a difference. Plus you get the bigger HD and I know you keep saying it doesn't matter but it does. I have an external HD too and thought the same thing as you but now rarely use it as it is a pain in the ass. Slow transfer rates etc. For $80 you get a bigger HD and a pretty significant Processor upgrade plus I'm pretty sure the intel 3000 graphics card is better then the GMA HD.
