Jail time for selling stolen vehicles

A Vancouver man has been sentenced to 14-and-a-half months in jail for selling 17 stolen vehicles on Craigslist.

33-year-old Jonathan Allan Duck, also known as William John Pierce, pleaded guilty to trafficking in stolen property.

Police say 17 unsuspecting buyers were victimized over a two-year period in what's called a "cloned vehicle scam".

Vehicle identification number plates from wrecked vehicles were put on similar type cars that had been freshly stolen-to-order, and then sold on Craigslist for between 3000 and 12-thousand dollars.

its considered very much like white collar crime and that's actually a very steep sentence

quick google and you'll find sentences like 6months in jail & 6months house arrest or probation/fines for similar crimes done in the USA (even in greater extents than 17 cars)

side note, here's a Gone in 60 Seconds type crime ring that was busted late summer/fall of last year

http://www.ntn24.com/news/news/us-ch...olen-cars-iraq < still in court i imagine (just posted it cuz i found it in my search for US sentences)

I was shocked when I read 14.5 months. I'd expect 5 months coming from canadian law.

It's about time the Canadian justice system gets it right.
