Sorry for the misunderstanding. | Oh haha no worries, I actually don't know anyone who has one right now, the one I tried out has been sold. The only weird thing about the bike is the weight/weight distribution, it's heavy and all the weight is in the back, otherwise it's super comfy and quiet.

im kind of late, but i own a 2005 bws.
costs 6 dollars even at these gas prices, hits 65km routinely on my way to work on the flat, and going uphill never dips below 55.
i also live in richmond, and if i want to head into vancouver, oak street is the only way. that or the skytrain foot passenger bridge, but i feel like a jerk heading that way.
either way, the scooter is a blast, and yes, i drive mine rain or shine.

An e-scooter with no pedals does need insurance.

What about a bicycle with a 49cc motor installed? Would it consider as a motor assisted bicycle or LSM or it's just plain illegal?

Didnt want to bump the thread, but i searched all over rs and bcsb and still coudnt find the answer.
Can you ride a 50cc scooter around the city unsupervised without any motorcycle license and only a learner's license (7L)?

What if I go out and take my motorcycle knowledge test ? Would I have to follow the same rules as motorcycles? Ex. No riding before sunrise and after sunset.

The foot bridge is usually only people and bicycles. I've only seen 1 gas powered scooter cross the bridge. Other times its usually only electric powered bikes

So are you speaking from experience that it's fine? Oak might have a 60km/h speed limit but people are still driving over it at 80km/h+ while some 50cc's top out at 5x km/h.

I have to ask - what is so appealing about riding a scooter? Is it really so much cheaper on gas than a motorcycle that it justifies topping out at 60kph? It doesn't seem any safer either, I would think the biggest danger is still other drivers not seeing you and taking you out.
Edit: Actually I would think it's even more dangerous as people on scooters don't seem to wear any sort of gear at all. So you'd get even more fucked if a car ran you over =p

In case you didn't notice, nearly everyone goes 20kph over the limit... everywhere. So if you're scared of 80kph on the Oak St. bridge, you'll be scared everywhere. Just saying.
Yeah, and I am somewhat speaking from experience. I've been riding motorcycles for 7 years and scooters, when driven correctly in a proper manner, are fun, cheap and safe. Nothing bothers me more than driving down a street with some tool on a 50cc scooter going 20kph with the throttle half open, hugging the sidewalk. Either drive IN traffic the way you're supposed to or GTFO the road.

So you'd get even more fucked if a car ran you over =p | Insurance is one of the big factors, scooter itself is also dirt cheap. Gas is supposed to be something crazy cheap like $5 per 150kms or so.
Speaking for myself, im still in HS, and a big motorcycle costing 3-4k along with 2-3k insurance is just out of what people would call reasonable.
I did look into some big bikes like an R6 or GSXR but didnt want it to kill me till later in life  | |
