I heard something back in high school like you need to be able to fluently speak french. (If you're becoming a police officer in Canada). Reasons being french is our second language and if you are transferred to Montreal, etc either for training or stay.

If this isn't true, knowing the french language I think will better your chances at getting the job by a lot.

You don't need mandatory french. It is an asset of course. More so for the RCMP. That is, if you get placed in Quebec or Montreal. Vancouver PD, not so much. If its not listed on their site as a requirement, then its not. Everyone brings something different to the table.

So all your info is from what you "hear." Last time I checked, when people are looking for facts, they go to the source
I'm just stating based on hearsay, which is what everybody else is doing in this thread. Unless there's actually a VPD recruiter in this thread, everyone's comment is based off of what we heard and know.

Im not a vpd recruiter but they are my employer so I would think my number is pretty accurate. I also think this is public knowledge, but the city has allocated funding to hiring a few more cops over the years as well.

French would definitely be an asset as well as any other language (just thinking about communicating with a pd in quebec makes me cringe), but its not a necessity for the west coast. As stated, maybe more critical for the rcmp. Team sports help (shows you can function as a team member) as well as life experiences such as travelling.

Or maybe get more "accurate" info by attending recruiting sessions. Just a thought. Probably a bit more reliable than "friends says.":roll eyes:

Cheers.

The most important point here that has been brought up is don't lie. If they find out you lie on your polygraph, you are not going to be a PO anywhere across canada.

Other than that, just be a good law abiding citizen (dont dl anything illegally, traffic tickets etc) + a well rounded individual.

I have never received any traffic tickets before but what about illegal downloads? If I was under the polygraph, what could I possibly but say "yes"? Lol.

I can't imagine how much stress a candidate would have under a polygraph.

Weakest comeback ever. I'm not even gonna bother. Think what you like.

Be truthful that you've made illegal downloads.
