Linux has come a long way

While Linux is running our phones, friend requests, tweets, financial trades, ATMs and more, most of us don't know how it's actually built.

Linux is a very stable OS. Only downside is that there is lack of software/drivers for it. I think I have noticed that TD Back now runs windows for ATM and it lags compared to their old Linux based ATM.

how did the penguin come to be the logo for linux?

I think it runs Windows CE, thats what our bank machine runs.

Tux - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:

Tux is a penguin character and the official mascot of the Linux kernel.[1] Originally created as an entry to a Linux logo competition, Tux is the most commonly used icon for Linux, although different Linux distributions depict Tux in various styles

Well that's all devices. Phones and Tablets. It's believable.

Why is it hard to believe? Apple sold (according to their quarterly earnings call) 657K iOS devices per day for the last quarter, so 850K is totally believable.

However, I find it funny the video chose to show 850K Android devices per day vs 30K Windows devices per day and ignored the 657K iOS devices per day.

I guess 850K vs 30K is much more impressive than 850K vs 657K. Especially when it took 55 vendors to sell those 805K vs one vendor for 657K.

Although I like Linux I still like to bug the Linux geeks who have forever predicted Linux would take over Windows as the dominant OS on your desktop. Further proof the geeks should stick to controlling things behind the scenes and let the creative people develop products that people actually have to interact with.

That 850k doesn't even include all the embedded microchips and arm processors running linux out in the world. 850K is just what's on the consumer side. Our GPS boxes run a custom developed linux kernal off of an arm processor.
