Google Play - 20,000 song storage
 

Google Play is really awesome. Upload your entire music collection (up to 20,000), and then you can stream or download them from anywhere.
Unfortunately, you can't access it, unless you're in the US. If you are able to accept the agreement, then that unlocks Google Play, so you can access it anywhere. US or not!

Here's some methods that I found to be successful

1) Edit your HOSTS file to include play.google.com and the IP for the US version
-copy and paste this line to the end of your hosts file:
play.google.com 50.22.92.209
-save the changes
-restart or run ipconfig /flushdns

2) Use Hotspot shield
-This may or may not work. It depends on what server you get logged into, when you connect. If you get the message that you're blocked, try reconnecting to Hotspot shield again.

3) Unblock-US or similar
If you're setup with a 3rd party DNS, like unblock-us.com, then going to https://play.google.com/music will take you to the US version


Once you've accepted the agreement, you'll be able to access Google Play Music from anywhere, regardless of your region.

This music portion of Play has been available for quite some time, at least half year, previously known as Google Music.. The Android interface for Google Music is really nice.. too bad I have an iPhone :alone:

Assuming it won't handle FLACs?

It handles a lot of formats including FLAC and OGG, but according to the page below, it transcodes them to 320Kbs MP3, though.

Hmm. Anyone else having problems with trying to upload music to it?

Even if it does, its gonna rape your data. Assuming you commute 1.5-2hrs a day that's about 600-800mb PER DAY just for music streaming. Lossless music streaming will only become a viable option when 3g/4g plans cost as much as cable plans (~$30 for 100+gb/mth).

Honestly, I think a 256gb iPhone/iPod/MicroSDXC would happen first before that (3g/4g coming down in price).

Mine has been uploading since last night. I think 1/4 of my collection has been uploaded, so far. Are you have issues with the music manager software?

Wouldn't mind if I get my music streamed to me at a lower bitrate in the car, was wondering about flac because I was wondering if I could ever download it back from them directly...

You are correct, sir. I tried download a FLAC that got uploaded, and it downloaded as a 320Kb/s MP3.

I laugh this is a way to catch ppl uploading pirated music. Just saying, since their trying to pass a new bill.

have your music on your phone and you're set? stream to any device; have it with you at all times; don't need to download your own music every time you want to listen to it; and ye don't need an insanely cluttered playlist of 20k tracks...

I like having a centralized storage for my music, and it acts as a backup to my collection. There's no need to download. Everything just streams. In fact, you shouldn't download music, unless you're migrating your library to another service, or taking it offline. You can only download a track twice from Google Music.

It's only as cluttered as your current collection. It was a mess when I tried uploading my entire collection at once. There were so many orphaned tracks. Now, I'm gradually uploading my collection, so that I can clean up ID3 tags, and acquire album covers.

Playlists are easy to make, too. Just create a new playlist, and drag and drop tracks into it.

so can i just accept the agreement next time i go to the states and use wifi?

Yep... basically there will be a tab on play.google.com for "Music", which takes you to http://play.google.com/music/

If you try going to that page here, it'll say it's not available... but if you go there in the States, you'll get the agreement page, and after accepting it, you will be able to go to http://play.google.com/music/ from Canada and show the actual content.
