To be fair, many of the original RS members used to go to the drags out in Port Kells, among various other locations. However, I think the difference between those members and the ones on VU is that we've matured and grown up enough to realize that 1) It's not worth the risk to possibly lose your car, 2) It puts innocent lives in danger, and, 3) It ruins the fragile truce between the police/general public and those who enjoy modifying the cars. I remember after F&F came out, I flat out refused to go to Richmond because at that point anyone with a car that looked even slightly modified was immediately targeted by the police. I'll admit that I know of a few remote locations where I enjoy going for a spirited drive around some foothills or in the mountains, but they're areas that are secluded from the public. It's absolutely stupid to do a rolling drag in the middle of a public road when there are still tons of cars around you. I've seen waaaaay too many close calls (and almost had one of those idiots crash into me a couple months back) to even consider doing it these days. |
Going out to Mission is fine. No matter who it is and what they're driving. If you have the guts to actually go out and race there, instead of being all talk, or building a fast car for no purpose and having never raced it, then you have my respect. However, street racing is being cracked down hard upon, and it's definitely not worth the penalties to even think about doing it. Not to mention how dangerous it is, doing 148kph in traffic! I certainly wouldn't have a forum where everyone is invited to brag about all the times they engage in it, and get others to join in. It's just asking for trouble. The purpose of starting this site was to promote underground race events, where they close off streets and the police can't do anything. Basically to become F&F. At least that's what I heard one of the members say, whom I met the other day. |

Edit: All of the links to threads I have in here require an account to see them apparently. Spoiler! :fulloffuck: Added bonus Quote:

Saw this post by El Bastardo, and thought I would share it here in case the mods at VU delete it. It deserves a thanks! "El Bastardo Re: Revscene is talking about us « Reply #3 Today at 9:07am » [Quote] I think the contention some Revscenesters have with this board is the open endorsement of potentially dangerous activity. While it would be impossible and unrealistic to expect that people will not street race, the fact that this board promotes and organizes these races is a scary concept for some. Most people feel they're "above average" drivers, and I don't doubt their talent, but combine that with a dangerous activity, hyper awareness of surroundings (for getting "busted") and an activity out of their comfort zone (racing) you have a recipe for disaster. Please note that Revscene is condemning something that is not only illegal but dangerous and potentially very deadly. We're sure that members of VU are great people, but we don't agree with the message this group sends. Those of us driving modified cars are given a bad name by the general public because they all believe we're blocking off roads and smashing into minivans full of orphans. This community sets us all back. " |
Lol he sure loves decals. |

Hello RS Just to add to our discussion... This was posted in response to Grim's postings on our local forum... "Thank you for actually coming out and posting some intelligent disscussion We at VU do NOT support Street Racing. We have a disclaimer right on the "Welcome" page stating this fact; If a member chooses to take part in an illegal race, they do so at their own risk, at their own choice, and to their own consequences I was one of the first to join this forum to support safe racing, be it drag, autocross, drift etc Personally, I keep my racing to the 1/4 mile drag strip. One of the other Admin on here strickly posts about his experiences, and dates of future events, of autocross. The "Race Locations" were started to co-incide with where these events happen, and as a place to post where you see other cars on the road, but some members literally post about their experiences competing on the unsecured streets; They do this as their own choice and their own risk. Many of us are members of other local forums, who also, do not support any illegal racing. We started this group to encourage enjoying and getting the full extent of customized cars via safe, legal racing for all different brands, classes, and manufacturers I will appriciate any serious support we get from new members, but I will continue to delete all rude, and redundant postings I welcome any serious members to join us and make our site even better " ... and to sum everything up... We do not condone or support any illegal racing of any kind. |
But your administrator Bennji posts his "experiences", setting the tone and example for the board. He also makes comments essentially endorsing this type of behavior. Spoiler! Link to post Spoiler! Link to post Spoiler! Link to post (Google Maps states that this, while following the speed limit, should take over an hour) Hope, BC, Canada to Abbotsford, BC, Canada - Google Maps Spoiler! Link to post And this post here takes the cake: (Regarding the 13 people busted in the exotic race on Highway 99) Quote:
Hell, corkit. I think you're the only one on that board who DOESN'T mention racing Edit: I was wrong Spoiler! Link to post |
This is great. Haha. |
Regarding Bennji; I can't speak for everyone. He's an admin, a grown up, and his actions and statements are his own. Both myself, and Last-Ryd are legal "Racers" and do what we can to help point more members to engage in safe activities I stick by what I said before, that I do not condone illegal racing. The statement above is Vancouver Underground's slogan "Racers Unite" It is a statement suggesting everyone who likes to enjoy what they do to their cars to come and join our forum, so that we can all benefit by finding places to drag, drift, or autocross, OFF of city streets I've come on here, asking that the members of RS be mature and not to come and blast the entire site for based against some of our members comments. I'm sure RS has it's share of people who come on here and make statements about how fast their car can go in the city on aftermarket springs and blown stock struts. People hopefully will learn from their "mistakes" and comments, and that's what I've joined all my different forums to try and do; Teach others how they can have safe fun with their cars. |
Then I've done some work weeding out the people breaking the rules on your site. It looks like you, as a Global Mod, have some people to ban. |
I can't very well boot Bennji, as he's another admin |
Admin or not, it sounds like either a conflict of interest or hypocrisy. If one of your admins is not following the rules that your founding members made, then they should be appropriately disciplined for doing so. |
