The Tupac one kinda looked that way, at least. However, in the American Idol one, you can clearly watch Elvis walk alongside Celine, plus there's an aerial shot of the two as they walk... :fulloffuck:

I would assume it has something to do with light hitting particles at a certain distance....and they aren't on a screen.....holograms are TRULY 3-dimensional...

Maybe just an insane look-a-like? I'm in the same boat, just thinking "if that's a hologram... how...?!"

I'm pretty sure the Tupac bit was projected onto a screen. We don't have the technology to have a true 3D hologram do what is seen in sci-fi movies... yet. At least not to the degree that the Elvis thing seems to be. I know there are lots of small scale projects out there that have achieved it, but...

They used a body double for the live performance and overlaid the old live performance on top for the TV broadcast.

Good find, Metal. Glad to know I wasn't going crazy. :lol

snoop must be wondering what was spiked in his last joint

Tupac could have been done on a fog screen. FogScreen Projection Screen and Elvis could have been added in post production. |Seems like there is way to much light for a projector to work.

“video was composed by James Cameron’s Venice, CA, SFX company Digital Domain using a mixture of live footage, wire-framing, and CGI. This was then fed into Musion’s holographic technology, which projects the image onto a special foil. The foil is based on principles set out in the old magician’s illusion Pepper’s Ghost, which trick audiences into thinking they’re viewing a person or object rather than a simple reflection. By using a lightweight foil which mimics the properties of semi-transparent glass, Musion is able to extend the concept’s scale without limiting the efficacy of the illusion.”

I watched it live via online stream. I thought it was just Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg. I got treated to Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent, a hologram 2 Pac and the Nate Dogg tribute. TOTALLY DELIVERED

Mike Oxbig 04-17-2012 01:25 AM

In the future there is probably going be hentai strip clubs in japan

MR_BIGGS 04-17-2012 06:56 AM

Wish I could have been there live for Eminem's "Till I Collapse" performance homage to Nate Dogg.

I watched the full concert and the tupac performance about a dozen times and it makes me sad the feelings I get that hes gone. He has such a stage pressance and it's trust the hologram has more relevance then 90% of the current act's in music today.

Hate him or love him, seven would prob say he's a bad guy but he is one person that deserves a mulligan no questions asked

I thought the set was pretty awesome, coming from someone who has nowhere near the interest in rap as I did 10 years ago. But come the fuck on. Doesn't anyone find this a bit disrespectful? The nate doug tribute thing they did was cool, showing old photos of him when he was younger, all them hanging out, but this seems a bit twisted.
*Edit. I read Pacs Mom was a big fan of it, and they asked her about it as well before they did, so I suppose they did it in the most respectful manner possible.

DanHibiki 04-18-2012 01:27 AM

Can someone dumb down how they were able to do this to me? :\

StylinRed 04-18-2012 02:28 AM

like i was saying before in some long forgotten thread (i think it was the terminator salvation thread after seeing the cgi'd young Arnold)

they should take voice imprints of all the major actors have them recite the alphabet and enunciate sounds

so that even long after they've passed or aged beyond reason we could still have new films etc with them

imagine a brand new Sean Connery James Bond film like 20years from now :) or a new Terminator film 30 years from now with Arnold :D

StaxBundlez 04-18-2012 02:51 AM

it's only been 3 days and there's almost 6 million views..

Nightwalker 04-18-2012 03:15 AM

When I watched this live, I really didn't think it was a big deal at all.

Also it was only a very short part of the 1 1/2 hour Dre and Snoop set full of awesome guests. From all the commentary and shit on Facebook, you'd think the slot was actually billed as being 2 Pac. A bunch of stuff being posted and a bunch of haters. This one was kinda funny though:

I wonder if Elvis is missing from the poster..... because he's still alive :troll:
