What to do with tiny rust spot?

Ok, so I drove the other day in my wife's EX35 because I was picking something up, and I discovered this chip spot that now has rust on it.

I know that I should get rid the rust before using any touch-up paint to cover this spot (it's about 1cm in width and 0.5cm in height)

The thing is, how do I do it properly?

Any comment is TIA

what i do might not be the correct way but i rub paint thinner on that little area then touch up and clear it

Would the paint thinner damage the paint around it?

DO NOT USE PAINT THINNER, it will damage the paint.

Your best bet is to sand it off then primer then paint it

Doesnt nissan have a 10 year warranty on paint?

i have used thinner many times on my car i just wipe it off right after then wax

A bit of paint thinner shouldn't do much to properly cured and/or waxed paint (as far as my experience goes) but with a patch that size I usually mask it off, sand the rust off completely, prime, and touch up. Haven't ever had a problem. Oh and I don't wax the spot for a month.

Edit: safer to avoid the thinner, I might have been lucky and my car usually as a heavy coat of sealant on it.

What sandpaper should I get? Does primer comes in like touch-up paint size?

What is adj prep pen? Like, if I walk into a lordco, do I just tell them that I have a rust spot and I need a "prep pen"?

I got that exact one at cantire awhile back. Works well.

I used 600-800 grit sandpaper that I just had lying around at home, the primer was a small bottle for touch up purposes I bought from Canadian Tire, and the touch up paint was a bottle of pre-made from the dealer.

Be careful with sanding, mind. You just want the rust off, and maybe a minuscule amount of damaged surrounding paint. The touch up won't look perfect but at least it's not too noticeable and it'll prevent further damage.

use the pen lets you get in the area you need and not damage the surrounding area
