Doors unlocking involuntarily

Hey all,

My wife owns a 2000 Volkwagen Cabriolet and all of a sudden, while driving, the horn will honk 2-3 times for no reason intermittently during the drive, and while parked, the doors will sometimes unlock involuntarily! We haven't had a chance to take it to a dealer, but have taken it to a mechanic nearby her workplace to no avail... Any suggestions on what may be causing it?

TIA

Does it have aftermarket alarm?

go over to dubberz.com.. ask to borrow a VAGCOM it should tell you whats wrong.. Don't have to go to the dealer for a 12year old car!

I think it might be the alarm too. A car I used to own had symptoms like yours and turn out it was the brain of the alarm failing. Had it replaced under warranty and problem went away.

is it an aftermarket alarm or stock? Also TONS of weird things happen when the ignition switch fails on these era vws. My girlfriends car would flash the lights, occasionally roll the windows down on its own, fuck with the door locks, but it would never kill the engine. My corrado would die while driving. Start back up fine, drive fine, windows would stop working, sunroof would cut in and out of working, car would lock and unlock at random then wouldn't start. They are electrical demons in these fucking things! If you need a good mechanic for VW too I'd suggest Shift autosport in Burnaby. They know their volkswagens.
