BCIT FMA accounting vs SFU beedie accounting I need serious advise right now. Pros and Cons SFU vs BCIT final destination - 1st CA 2nd CGA is it true that the big four reserves more seatings for SFU and UBC students? and bcit is out? I got accepted into bcit and will start my first year this september... and if bcit will not get me anywhere then ill strive for SFU.. PLEASE ADVISE |
UBC DAP SFU UVIC TRINITY all the rest |
soo bcit is a big nono? |
its not a "a big no no" its on the same level as kwantlen/ douglas/ cap / langara etc.. apply the 80/20 rule :) |
my friend who graduated from kwantlen and who got offers from the big 4 (and settled for a specific one) laughs at lists like this |
Your friend might be the exception and not the rule. I had an uncle who smoked 6 packs of cigarettes a day for 60 years and he lived to 90... Well not really but the idea is the same. |

bcit could help you jumpstart your career faster i think, but programs are intense (i.e. 6-7 courses/sem, not 100% sure). Since it's a trades school, theres more application and practice than theory. universities are more focused on theory and concepts; might give u :fulloffuck: plus greater competition just to get into courses (SFU) |

From a Big 4 recruiter "UBC DAP and other big universities churn out so many grads that 8/10 are from there. The DAP program is designed for CA route, whereas the kwantlen BBA(I went to kwantlen) is geared more towards CGA. We do recruit from places like Kwantlen, but the numbers are not that high." After this was said, the person went on to say how important networking was - its cliche. At the end of the day if you go any of the 2nd tier schools, you better have a killer GPA and EPIC extracurricular activities to even be considered for an interview. The only way around that is to be the president/exec of the 2nd tier school's accounting/finance club. It all boils down to how well you know [ read: talk to the recruiter once a month for event planning because you are an exec of the accounting club] the recruiter. I know I'm not answering for BCIT directly - but works the same way. If you think i'm BS'ing - compare the number of CA events at big universities vs small ones. You will find that SFU / UBC / Trinity / UVIC all have their OWN events, while kwantlen/bcit/UFV/Langara/Cap have combined events. What does that say how the recruiters value and where majority of the hires come from? |
ok thanks tiger!! u gave lots of great info! |
SFU's Accounting program accepts only honours students and everything is graded according to the curve. I know a lot of people who wanted to go into accounting but couldn't meet the honours requirements. That being said, SFU as a school might give you a better path (i.e. exclusive networking events, etc.) |
