OFFICIAL CS-GO (Beta)

Did a search, and couldn't find a CS-GO thread.

I did a survey a few months ago, and finally got the beta invite today in my steam account (I think they gave it to everyone).

Initial thoughts: I will admit that I'm biased because I used to play quite a bit of 1.6 casually, and preferred 1.6 over source.

I'm quite disappointed with the game at the moment, especially with all the hype. The game mechanics/movement/feel is very similar to CS Source. The hit boxes are very similar, and the amount of recoil is same or less than source. It is basically a refined version of CS source in my opinion. All of the pros that made CS 1.6 such a competitive game to play just isn't here(Isn't their goal is to make another competitive FPS game?). I guess this shouldn't be too surprising, because I remember back then reading an article where they invited only CS Source pros for beta testing instead of 1.6 pros.

Back then when CS Source was introduced, the community was divided between 1.6/source. With the introduction of CS GO, I don't see it "re-uniting" the community together again, but instead dividing it into 3. Also, I think players would rather stay at 1.6, or Source instead of buying Source#2.

What do you guys think?

TL;DR

CS GO=CS SOURCE#2, 1.6 FTW

im old school and still play 1.6

I've watched show matches of 1.6 pros going at it but the general consensus is there's a lot to change before 1.6 pros will want to jump to it. You will not believe the loyalty 1.6 pros have for the game especially in Europe

1.6 ftw

I think ill forever be a 1.6 addict. I played cs: pro mod and source and still never liked any updated versions...Iuno the old 1.6 graphics, movement, and recoil were better imo

as someone that probably had 1000+ hours into the original cs..i didn't get cs:s until it was $5 few years ago because of friends bitching about the lame hitboxes and random HS...think i clocked less than 10 hours on that game.

May have said this before but what they need to do is either make HL2 Ep 3 soon then move on to create the next-gen valve game engine. Then from that develop a full-fledged CS sequel.

and have it developed by Valve themselves..not the devs at hidden path.

having said all that, i'm sure i'll still get and try this game out day 1.

I've been playing CS for well over 10 years now (1.0) and play CS:S now (and have for a while) ... I seriously don't get the hate some people have for CS:S ... Every "elite" player fucking whined and complained with every new version (including 1.6 when it came out) claiming they "broke" the game, yet they stuck with 1.6 for whatever goddamn reason, even after complaining about it for months/years ...

1.3 - People whining because they could no longer run around jumping at full speed and headshotting people with ridiculous accuracy
1.4 - People whining because they could no longer jump while planting the bomb, so they couldn't put it in impossible to defuse locations, people whining because they couldn't shoot while defusing, blah blah blah
1.5 - Don't remember anything in particular
1.6 - People whining because riot shield ruined the game, new UI sucks, blah blah blah

Got the beta and wasn't too impressed. Has a more modern warfare style to it compared to source, just can't get into it

don't forget 1.6 added the bolt action delay of awp and scout - no more quickswitching.
for the awp i can agree with that, but for the scout which is not a 1 shot 1 kill weapon i didn't really like that.

People will always complain. Quite a bit of the 1.6 professional players have been playing Source lately and CS:GO's future seems quite bright. A lot of them are seeing it as the future. CS 1.6 can only last for so long

Scout + Deagle combo on any map ftw. You could still quick switch in 1.6

exdee 05-23-2012 11:00 AM

no scope scout ftw
i used to play scoutzknivez all day and become so pro with the scout i just noscope headshot from across the map

TOS'd 05-23-2012 11:03 AM

+1 scoutzknivez 24/7

brings back so many memories

got so used to quick switching that even on normal maps id be making a shit load of noise, as long as you are the fastest haha..

1.6 has already been dead on the pub front for many years..and didn't few of the major leagues already pulled out?

I started from 1.3 and 1.5 was probably my fave...although I wish i could've tried cs from the beta days

Jobo 05-23-2012 11:23 AM

^ there's still esea and cevo. I think it was cal and ogl that pulled out

gdoh 05-23-2012 11:27 AM

i tried to play 1.6 a while back and could never find any servers =[
