are those tinted? tinted taillights are illegal

dlo 05-23-2012 12:56 AM

Pretty sure any modification to the tailights or even headlights are considered illegal

Jegz 05-23-2012 01:32 AM

Not tinted i dont think so. They cleared and its from an OEM tailight.

hchang 05-23-2012 01:51 AM

Yeah doesn't look tinted to me.

I thought that as long as light passes through and all the respective colours (red, white, yellow) are still there its fine.

is it an authentic TL taillight from a type s or a regular TL with DOT etc markings? is it tint free?

if no to any of the above, its illegal.

Anything other than OEM is illegal. Not sure about using lights from another trim.

Not true.

If the lights are DOT approved, then they are legal provided that the TL has a red relfector somewhere on the rear bumper of the vehicle. (ie. he didn't change out the red reflectors for clear ones).

I don't remember if the TL has the reflector on the light or on the bumper or not, but if the red reflector is on the bumper, then as long as the lights are DOT approved, your friend should be good. However, if the TL's red reflector is built into the taillight, then it would be illegal as you are required to have the red reflector.

Those generation TLs have a rear sidemarker, that are reflective, in red. So in that regards you're ok.

OP, I think you'll get a more clear answer if you give us a better description of the taillight in question; or ask your friend for more information.

To show us a picture and have us guess whether they are legal or not doesn't sound like a good way of asking for advice. Just my two cents.

Those look like OEM Type-S taillights......Should be ok.
