... RIP

I feel bad for the daughter...

mmmk 05-28-2012 11:50 AM

WOW, I've been to that sushi restaurant many times.
My hairdresser works at that korean hair salon across from it...

StylinRed 05-28-2012 12:16 PM

so the victims 1 male, 1 female, "were known to each other but not related" and its believed they were targeted and shot shortly after closing

based on comments in here its a husband/wife ran shop but the victims aren't related

was someone cheating and the other killed or had them killed?

I should be spending my time on other things than trying to computer sherlock holmes this like working....

side note im surprised their sushi place was so popular considering sushi oyama is right across from it or does everyone know that place used to be a crematorium waaaay back in the day and so is turned off

It's popular because its cheap. A 'party tray' that would cost $37+ at T&T costs $20 there and you get discount if you order past 8PM or something like that.

Really hoping it's not the owner and the wife for the sake of the kid :( And they were always polite and quick with the orders

Crazy...used to go there pretty often when I lived in Burnaby..

InvisibleSoul 05-28-2012 01:51 PM

Some updates.

Burnaby restaurant owner, woman, gunned down inside business

So it was the owner, and a woman, maybe a customer?

Quote:

METRO VANCOUVER -- The owner of a tiny Burnaby sushi restaurant was gunned down Sunday night, along with a woman inside the business at the time.

Huong (Andy) Tran and the woman were found by police shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday inside Tran's Royal Oak Sushi House restaurant.

The woman's identity is not yet being released by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team pending notification of next of kin.

But Tran was confirmed as the man seen lying on the floor of the restaurant by a passerby about half an hour after the business' scheduled 9 p.m. closing time.

Neither Tran, nor the second victim, have any criminal record or were known to police.

Tran bought the small restaurant in 2005, according to corporate records, from a Vancouver restaurant owner named Binh Brian Ly. Ly said Monday that he had not kept in touch with Tran and had no idea what might have happened Sunday night.

IHIT remained on the scene of the double murder at 6514 Royal Oak Avenue in Burnaby. More than a block of Royal Oak south of Kingsway was behind police tape, which was expected to remain up until Monday evening.

IHIT's Sgt. Jennifer Pound said the two victims appear to have been targeted though the murder is not believed to be gang-related.

Neighbouring businesses were forced to remain closed Monday morning. Workers and others who were able to open were shocked by news that two people linked to the sushi café had been slain.

Pound said the victims were not known to police and that investigators are searching for a motive.

"They don't have a motive at this point. They have got the tact troop out there and they are canvassing the area and they are looking to speak with any witnesses that have any information," Pound said.

Police are also collecting video surveillance footage in the area and looking into the background of the victims, who were not related though known to each other.

While the two victims were shot, there were no reports of shootings made to police at the time, Pound confirmed.

Asked if it was possible the business had financial troubles, Pound said investigators "are looking into it. They really are looking into the motive right now."

There is a bank on one side of the sushi place and a car wash on the other. All are in a small strip mall at Royal Oak and Kingsway.

The neighbouring businesses were not open when the bodies were found, Pound said.

"We are relying strictly on witnesses in the residential area," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

The owner of the store died and a woman died, but police aren't releasing her identity yet.

RIP, I was at happy days korean resturaunt and have dash cam recordings of me travelling north bound down royal oak at 8:50-8:52pm. I don't know if it's even worth submitting to Police as nothing happens in it. Why doesn't everyone have one of these yet :(

Might be worth a look. They could check out the cars or run the plates that your camera captures.

TRDood 05-28-2012 07:32 PM

The HSBC next door should have footage if the murderer fled towards Kingway.

The doors were locked. So.. Either backdoor or someone with the keys?

Shorn 05-28-2012 07:40 PM

Vancouver sun is now saying the woman is an employee:
