How to clean engine bay?

Are there certain methods + items to use for cleaning an engine bay? Every

time I pop open my hood, I always want to clean it up good because wiping it

with a wet cloth just ain't enough. Just looking for some advice as I am still a

newbie :derp:

-I also want to clean up some minor oil + coolant spill in the bay too!

Spray everything with super clean (comes in purple bottle) let sit for a few min. Try not to let dry or do it when motor is hot. Rinse and repeat for spots you missed. Try to avoid air cleaner, cover it with a bag if you want.

I usually go to wash world or somewhere that has hot water pressure washer.

1. spray with degreaser
2. power wash
3. spray with tire shine and wipe surfaces with rag

I use Wheel cleaner from Auto Magic, reduce it slightly spray it on and rinse off a min later. By far the best product ive used to clean engine bays, gets rid of dirt, grime, oil etc....

i usually just spray some degreaser and pressure wash the engine bay while the car is running, just avoid spraying directly at the intake and alternator and let it idle for a a few minutes. havent had any issues doing that

Make sure you cover the battery, distributor, alternator, and all other electrical before blasting with water.

First response is right on. Super clean from Walmart works great on a hot or running engine.

Clean when motor is COLD.

-Start motor
-Spray APC onto engine bay components
-let dwell for a few minutes.
-Hose off with water; careful to not directly spray into electrical component
-Turn off motor
-Wipe Dry.

Ahh shiet , now i dont trust myself doing this! Thx for advice tho RSers! i guess i better find someone who's experience with this but are there anywhere that provide this service?

I regularly degrease engines at work and my own vehicles, you have nothing to worry about.

I would be cautious about an older vehicle with a distributer because if you get water under the cap you may get a misfire. On newer vehicles everything under the hood is water resistant (except the air cleaner) your not going to screw anything up by getting it wet.

yah its an old wankel car, but in very good shape still. the engine bay just happens to be really dirty from dirt/dust that build up for quite a while now.

bad thing about this, you can't really predict what might happen from a rotisserie engine tho haha
