Question about car insurance

Long story short, my boss is moving offices to somewhere close to a skytrain station, and we have a semi-spare car that's already insured at a cheaper rate. I have been driving to work daily, but my insurance discount rate is only at 25%. I'm thinking of just taking the skytrain to work since it's so convenient and using our other spare car to drive to other places so I can cancel my car insurance to save some $$

Problem is that my car is always parked outside the house in the street. Is there some sort of insurance I can buy just to be insured for theft?

You can buy a storage permit, that covers comprehensive/collision but only if your car is on private property. You cannot leave it on the street.

Can it be stored in a open-faced garage? or in fact parked behind the garage?

Storage insurance comes with basic $200,000 third party liability. You can add Specified Perils to cover Fire and Theft.

If you want Fire, Theft and Vandalism, get the Comprehensive coverage for a few bucks more.

Storage doesnt come standard wit 200,000 liability, it's optional. If you buy only comp and you car rolls down the hill and hits somebody/something you will be sol..

whoops,

Yeah, storage does not have 200k basic third party liability.

It just has to be parked on private property. I'm pretty sure you can park it on your lawn, as long as it is off the street.

Its not too expensive. Like $10/ mth for storage, if that.

This is the problem. I have no option but to leave it out in the streets.

Then it must be properly insured (i.e. with a plate).
