Buying a laptop Sup guys, I'm in the market for a new laptop for work and need some help. (Regular word processing with documents only) Windows 14" or 15" 500GB HD No heavier than 5 lbs ~7hour or more battery life Optical drive, Webcam, USB3.0 is optional Prefers HDMI, High res display I've no clue about CPUs. Every now and then, I might do some light gaming (D3?) I can live with playing on normal graphics settings. Budget is 1000 before tax What are my options? If my budget is too low, whats the closest price without breaking my bank? I was looking at the Samsung Series 9 but it's a bit out of my range Thanks! |
For that kind of specs , you dont need to spend 1000 on a laptop. |
Asus U46 |
i picked up an acer aspire timelineX 4830tg for 700 after tax. windows 7 750gb 14" hd led lcd 6gb ram 1gb dedicated graphics good battery life... blah blah blah. and im playing d3 on it. |
Well for 1000$ you can get one twice as good as you stated but your problem will be choosing what make you want. Hp is cheap/high performane and good value. But it will break down, shitty quality Acer is even worse, so dont buy from them, same with toshiba. The top two are Asus and Sony Vaio, the vaio's are good but you have to pay a bit more for the same specs as you can get on A Asus. |

I also have an Acer TimelineX with the same specs as ImpulseX except in a 13". I have had 3 Acer TimelineX's in a row now and not one of them have given me any problems so I doubt they're the worst. The Lenovo Y580 would be good but the battery life and weight is not quite up to your requirements. Problem is most 15" laptops that have decent graphics are heavyweight and shorter battery life. 4830TG fits the bill but I think the line is due for a refresh soon with the new Ivy Bridge. The ASUS U46 looks decent too except I hate that battery hump. |
Asus has a wicked awesome 15" on sale at bestbuy at the moment that would fit most of your requirements. |
For professional use, thinkpads are the way to go. Durable and reliable. They won't break down on you in less than 2 years like many other mainstream laptops these days. |
+1 on Thinkpad. Using a T510 w/ all the extra features. They're super durable and i can game on mine whenever i feel like it. If you want something for daily word processing and a bit of light game w/ the ~5lb, then i would suggest the T430's. [Comp] Lenovo: Thinkpad T430s 760.50 after coupon - RedFlagDeals.com Forums |
