swfk 06-19-2012 10:10 AM

keyser solze 06-19-2012 10:28 AM

not really.. thats 25k a year which is average for a daily driver

keyser solze 06-19-2012 10:39 AM

yeah I guess but a little more kms than I was originally looking for. Just don't know much about their engine/drivetrains other than the specs.

it isnt high, but it isnt low. 25k/year

mos_skeeto 06-19-2012 10:41 AM

Hmm it has a dual clutch auto. I don't know much about those but I hear they're expensive to maintain on VW/Audis.

EDIT: oops I didn't read the 2004 part

keyser solze 06-19-2012 11:45 AM

its a 5 speed manual. Prolly Shoulda said that too

i don't think there's such things as 'life expectancy' for motors. none of them are designed to fail after 10 years or something.

as with all motors, when you're buying a high mileage one make sure it has been properly maintained by the owner. when you talk to the owner and ask him about the car it should become clear to you how much he cares about it.

if you start asking him when he last did this and that and all you get back are 'dunno's or 'i'm not sure what that is' then be more careful.

also factors include -
what KIND of mileage? highway mileage is not as stressful on motors as city. find out if the owner drives to work every day and if its far.
how many owners? generally, the less the better.
if it runs well?

i'd say if you can answer the above questions with satisfactory answers then go ahead and buy it, especially if the price reflects the high mileage.

PS: when negotiating with price don't let on that 'high mileage' may be okay. you need to give him the feeling that you are not happy at all with the high mileage but you're just willing to take a risk if the price is right.

good luck!

shorn-thanks for the advice. Always good ideas to do all that you mentioned.

anyone have any experience with it the 4g69 engine though?

jpark 06-19-2012 12:45 PM

pm k3lv, he has a boosted ralliart

k3lv 06-19-2012 02:13 PM

I has an evo :fullofwin:

godwin 06-19-2012 03:26 PM

that's roughly 70km / day.. like driving back and forth from Stanley Park to Surrey every day.. I would say it is higher than average.

Although not a Ralliart, my dad's OZ rally 04 Lancer is currently at 430xxx and is still running well

I'm not saying jump on it asap, each car has it's flaws, just take some things in to consideration when you buy used

tofu1413 06-19-2012 06:29 PM

hm... theres a red one for sale right now with 111k kms or so.... why not take a look at that?

keyser solze 06-19-2012 10:37 PM

That's what I was thinking

keyser solze 06-21-2012 12:18 AM

thanks, found the red one but thats a little out of my price range. this guy is asking 6200 and with the kms it has two accidents, one worth 2100. seem a little high? any suggestions for proper price?

tofu1413 06-21-2012 12:23 AM

actually that IS the right price for that car...

2100 is nothing for a car nowadays:

a headlight unit is upwards of $600 if OEM... that one is as clean as it gets.

better to pay a little more now, than pay retarded amounts of money to fix up a cheap one.

agreed completely with the pay now rather than later approach. just got a little worried with the responses i got from the evolutionm.net forums, then again im sure they all wanna say they got the best deal etc etc

keyser solze 06-21-2012 12:30 AM

I believe the car is also used as a driving instructors car

Geoc 06-21-2012 04:45 PM

I have a 4G69, it's essentially a stroked 4G63, a motor that has been with mitsubishi since the early 80's. The engine is pretty bulletproof. Chances are the tranny's gonna go way before the motor.
