I don't know about semi-professional, but the first thing that comes to mind is a waiter job..

or work in the mall.

I worked two jobs for years. During the daytime I had a professional construction position as a foreman, during weekends I would extend those skills to a semi-professional position at Home Depot and occasional construction projects too small to be profitable for my employer. Generally speaking, any position offering part-time evening and weekend employment will pay a much lower wage and most likely will not be semi-professional. If you're set on a semi-professional position, it would help to know your relevant skills. An accountant might work keeping books for small start up businesses or doing peoples' personal taxes, as an evening and weekend position for example.

military reserves?

^^Very well said by MindBomber.

I have a friend that's a welder, another that's a plumber. They make HUGE money on side work, usually even more than their day job wages. They both make anywhere from an extra $500 to $2000+ a week on top of their day job salary.

Side work for an accountant may not be as readily available, but if you pick up simple book keeping for a small business, that minimal amount of work can pay for a tank of gas every month.

And who knows, if you develop enough of a client base, you could even start your own business down the road ;)

Perhaps teaching one how to play a musical instrument? My neighbour works 9-3 then teaches guitar after work.

OP, it would be easier to make suggestions if we had an idea what your skill set is.

Software Development - Web Developer, my full time position.

But I want to earn extra $ after 5:30 monday to friday, and on the weekends/holidays

MindBomber 06-20-2012 03:14 PM

<-Not familiar with what a software development - web developer really does, suggestion may be illogical as a result....

Could you build/design websites?
Having a good website is almost essential to any small, start up businesses success today. Small, start up businesses are also on tight budgets, so probably would want to avoid more costly brick and mortar businesses. I'm sure you could do quite well building and managing simple sites for people in the evening, just put an ad on CL and maybe a bit of cold calling and the work would be plentiful.

I guess you should've mentioned your skill set at the start lol
I actually might have some work for you..
PM'd

Because I want to expand what I can do. Bank Teller always intrigues me but only TD has good operating hours.

The only place I know of that makes people work every weekend, including stat holidays with weird hours is the duty free at YVR. I used to work there, and they were on the way to transitioning to another duty free corporation so they've renovated everything and it looks pretty good. Starting rate is decent, and I believe they are hiring people for the summer season with potential extension.

This one's primarily retail, and I believe they also hire for warehouse guys. From what it looks like it sounds as if you're leaning more into a computer/developer job, but this one does have what you're looking for in terms of working holidays and weekends.. The airport is a 24/7/365 place anyway. So if you're alright with that, then by all means, give it a shot

A friend does security during the day and installs cables for Shaw or Telus in the evening in commercial buildings.
