3g Service in Hong Kong/Taiwan

Hi all,

I did a search and nothing came up in this or the vacation sub threads, so I figured I'd ask it here since it's phone-related.

I'm heading down to HK/Taiwan in 2 weeks (for a month), and I had a couple of questions about prepaid (data+voice) plans.

For those of you who have traveled (or travel frequently) to Hong Kong/Taiwan, what sort of options do I have if I want 3g coverage there.

From what I understand, the 3g bands here and there are incompatible, meaning that I'll only get 2g on my unlocked Captivate.

Is my only option to buy a cheap phone down there? Basically I'd like to have 3g to have GMaps available to me, and to have a personal hot spot for my laptop in the hotel.

(On a side note, which prepaid provider do you guys suggest? I hear a lot of chatter about 3 and their plans, but aside from that I don't know anything)

Thanks in advance for your help everyone!

Sorry but I need to ask for clarification-

Will 3g data from 3HK work on my North American Captivate? I'm aware that voice/2g works down there, but I was mostly interested in getting 3g there. I did a search for bands and apparently HK uses 2100 for 3g, which isn't used for Robellus here.

remember that if you need to cancel your 3 HK plan to leave some time to do it. retail at airport will direct u to phone in to cancel, which apparently takes a long time.
