Hey didnt want to make a new thread for a one question.
What kind of software do you guys use for designing your business cards?

Noir 08-04-2012 03:32 PM

^ illustrator/photoshop for me; maybe indesign for others?

PornMaster 08-04-2012 03:39 PM

Dude fuck the traditional business card that everyone has.

You want to stand out? Get this and they design it for you, just tell them what you want.

Thanks Neil!

Business is good, we`re doing some for SFU and UBC now too. I`ll see about getting RS a discount haha. Matte coat laminate + spot UV gloss is still our biggest seller.

Rhino does really great work, highly recommend them.

I found VistaPrint.com to be a good site for cards. I've never tried any other so I can't comment on them but I can say for the price, the quality and quantity you receive from VistaPrint is superb.

Lots of templates, great finishing, TONS of options, and awesome prices. FAST turn-around time too. You've probably already made your cards but for anyone else looking to make cards, check it out.

I went and talked to madeinprint today, they were really helpful and gave me a bunch of samples. Pricing is a bit high but I like the company and product, so we'll see... If not I'll get in touch with Unico, their regular pricing is pretty competitive, and they seem willing to work out a deal.

My wife prints through Jukebox. They had a deal for $18 for 1000 cards that ended a couple days ago...

PJ 08-06-2012 08:53 AM

Just thought I'd say thanks for the responses.
I'm looking to update my card in the near future too.

Is illustrator better to use to design business cards? Im more comfortable with photoshop but i have fiddled with illustrator before.

Ronin 08-08-2012 12:02 AM

This is the pimpest card...but if you aren't George Clooney, you'll just look like a douchebag handing these out.

Photoshops fine to make a business card. Just make sure the resolution is set to 300 dpi.

The reason Illustrator would be better is because it's vector vs raster based. Raster images are made up of pixels and vectors are made up of mathematical equations and can be printed to any size.

Illustrators print output is generally better than Photoshops so I would keep that in mind (depending on the style of card as well). If you're using pixel based elements (blurs, drop shadows, textures, etc), Photoshop is your jam. Hope that helped!

Hmm, since we're on the topic of business cards, anyone know where to buy good quality card cases? The last few I bought online were complete crap. Anyone know place in Van that sells them?

tiger_handheld 08-08-2012 05:09 PM

i need 100 cards printed.

does any one do small runs?

Contacted blitzgear but they start at 250 =\

Rev 09-18-2012 03:41 PM

For RS guys I'll do a big discount on 250 cards = ) Let me know
I run a web-based print shop. For 250 cards I charge $65+HST for matte laminate silk + UV overlaid cards.

Thanks for the referral Eff-1. Have serviced a few local guys on here would love to earn your business.

Zoidberg 09-18-2012 05:06 PM

What's the best place in Richmond to get business cards? Has anyone tried Fedex Kinko' before?

rslater 09-18-2012 06:43 PM

If local is a priority than a company like clubcard while the work is good they outsource a lot to get made as their downtown location has really nothing made in house.

Linx print does all their stuff in house if that makes a difference to you.
