Splashtop remote desktop and Shaw. how to get IP address? ok so I have Splashtop (remote desktop) on my Android and want to run it on my PC via the internet and NOT my Wifi LAN. how do i find the IP address of my PC? I used to check with ipconfig command. but now I'm on Shaw and using their router/wifi modem, it doesn't work for me.:okay: any ideas? |
Try whatismyip.com |
i'll try that out, thanks.:) |
log into to your shaw router and it'll have your IP there. |
Why not use your google account? If you set it up to use your google login, you can just use that to access your PC via your Android device. That's what I do and I haven't had any problems with it at all. Saves me from doing a lot of extra work opening ports and what not to get it to work. Just getting your IP might work if it was connected directly to your modem. But if it's still going through a router you'll need to do some fun stuff with ports (but I'm not 100% sure on this) |
Using the google account is absolutely the easiest way to find you pc online. Works perfectly on the Prime. |
you have to find your internet ip address.. google whats my ip on your pc set it a static ip address in your local network. on the router open port 3389 to your computer. Shaw's router/modemn won't let you use different port for remote so its kind of a security risk to use port 3389... though you can change it through the registry. after you set this up, you should be able to remote into your computer via the internet ip address |

fak i still cant get it set up. tried the gmail thing too. still nothing. on my wifi LAN it works fine. through my 3G, can't do it. EDIT: hmm seems like i need to port forward and add and exception to the firewall. I'll try tonight. |
There's also LogMeIn/Ignition which is free. |
+1 for logmein. Not the smoothest remote experience but no worries even if your IP changes and you can access it on any computer, ios and android. the port forward thing should do the trick tho. |

i use teamviewer.. |
logmein and teamviewer here |
I just use plain old rdp that's built into windows. It's fast and stable and doesn't require any 3rd party apps. Only reason I have splashtop is the nvidia tegra3 acceleration support on my tablet. |
