i heard their main objective for the partnership is to develop lithium batteries and for toyota to utilize bmw diesel motors in their euro market compact vehicles.. though the article says it, im not sure if they would focus so much on the sports car segment |

We lost so many sporty cars (especially affordable ones) maybe this is the way to go from now on. Toyota and Subaru make a car, now you have 2 car companies splitting the cost of one platform. Toyo then does one with BMW to sell a upscale sportscar. I heard the next Miata is shared with an Alfa roadster. |
interesting news.. but if it is meant to be a true sports car i don't think it would be based on the 6. the 6 is more like a luxury coupe than a sports coupe. the new 6 ranges from 38xx to 45xx lb's.. much too heavy for any sports-like handling. |
I call bull.....just like what jpark said....bmw wants battery technology and Toyota wants bmws diesel engines for the euro market. They always hype the news up by saying " new sports car in development" or something just to make people excited. But then again with the new NSX coming out I wouldn't be suprised if Toyota pulls something outta there ass |
Ya, technology sharing is most likely the main reason behind the partnership. Whether you like hybrid technology or not, Toyota seems to be doing quite well with what they've been doing. The same goes for BMW and their diesel engines. It's ultimately cheaper for both companies to share specs and production than to create something from scratch on their own. |
Infiniti and Mercedes is doing it already for the next G for Infiniti and C for Mercedes.. it is nothing new. BMW can sell more I6.. Toyota can glean some tech off BMW much like it did with Subaru. |
