That's great and all, but since when has banning anything in China stopped anyone? Did you know China has some of the tightest envriomental protection regulations in the world? /yao |
I need to hear Hyde's opinion on this. |
Resturaunts should just serve the soup with chicken and fake fins (tough vermicelli) and charge $2 a bowl :) or throw crab in it and charge more :P My fav soup is still fish stomach and crab soup :) |
I don't know about you guys but shark fin soup is fucking amazing. Nonetheless this is a big step in the right direction. A whole shark killed just for the fin? :failed: . Even if the ban does take three years to implement , it will still have SOME positive effect. |
i actually like sharks fin soup but i dont like it enough to pay for it or have sharks slaughtered for just their fins. i do find the texture to be very unique, but yeah the flavor is in the broth. |

Wow http://static.grindtv.com/images/1/0.../87/410587.jpg Alarming sight: thousands of shark fins drying on Hong Kong rooftop Alarming sight: thousands of shark fins drying on Hong Kong rooftop |

Really, that is literally all it's good for. You could say texture, but that can be replicated easily with many collagen based ingredients. But it wouldn't be expensive enough to use beef tendon or something like that. |
yes they should ban it, so that only a few select can get it again. that was the fine balance. lol, in our capitalist world, that just means raising the price so that most people cannot afford it, and a penalty so that only the wealthy can get away with it. the only way to do that is to make it illegal. that's what it will become. |
Seen a lot of information and a couple documentaries about shark fin soup, and while I didn't like the idea before, what I saw just pissed me the fuck off. |
Rofl, anyone actually thinks these officials will just nod their heads and follow this? |
^ the officials should have their arms and legs slaughtered and then thrown back into there family room, so that they could understand the shit the sharks go through before dieing. |

On an unrelated note, the Western hypocrisy surrounding shark fin soup is not only hugely significant but rarely discussed or even mentioned. |

The solution to shark fin is simple. Either make it sustainable or find a way to grow shark fin in a lab. If someone could figure that out, he/she would be a multi-billionaire. Problem solved. |
am i the only one who actually likes shark fin soup? I am not against banning it which i hope they do but it doesnt taste/feel that bad if u have the right kind of soup... |
I had it when I was super young. It's good, but it doesn't really justify the price tag. |

the superior kind. the thick soupy ones with like half a solid fin in it. the fin is "good". although, if you can replicate the same texture and "taste" with something else i'm fine with that too... i'm not talking about the low quality soup, where it comes in a normal bowl and the fin is already all mixed up with a buncha other ingredients they throw in there. that's not shark fin soup man. that's just left overs LOL. people that really want it will get it anyway. it's like drugs. they should ban it, then only the people that truly want it, will get it. shark fin soups gotta have the element of exclusivity. make it illegal, make it have fines/punishment, make it super expensive. eating it will have 100x more thrill. |
Didn't toronto reverse their ban of shark fin? |
The soup in shark fin soup is delicious as fck. Itself, no taste... just the whole chinese status of being able to eat it. Tradition lawl. |
it's okay, they'll go back to Piss water & boiled Eggs. |
