Quick poll: HTC Sensation(save $$) or Galaxy Nexus? (WIND mobile)

I'm switching from Fido to wind and trying to save a few bucks, being a poor college student.

Stuck between getting a nice used aws HTC Sensation 4G or just getting the Galaxy Nexus from Wind.

I could get the HTC used for roughly 230-260. The Galaxy Nexus is 299 with the 25/month plan. I think after 3 years with Wind, they pay off the rest of the phone..can anyone confirm this?

3 years is a long time to be locked in with a phone that will probably become outdated fast and isn't even paid off, so you cant really sell it. I used to buy used unlocked phones and just put in my Fido sim card.

I'm phone-less for a few days until I can decide what to do.

Leaning heavily towards the Galaxy Nexus now..it's not too much of a difference to pay. The HTC is stuck on Android 2.3 or something, and the GN will keep getting the latest updates.

HTC says they're going to release an upgrade to ICS (Android 4.0) sometime this year.

Both phones are dual core, and I believe that the ram is the same.

IMO, the major differences is the screen size and resolution. I would take a look at both in person and get a feel for it.

Personally, I am not a fan of contracts all too much, but I don't see plans getting much cheaper anytime soon. Although, If you decide to move to another city, it could be a problem.

Go with the Nexus. Be the first with updates and with Jellybean!

If the price difference isn't much go with the nexus for sure

Thanks guys. Got the Nexus new today. 25/month plan, comes with 100MB data..but it already tells me that 70% is used..wtf.

After 3 years they will clear off your windtab. Galaxy Nexus hands down. However I would just buy it out from Craigslist either new or used because at $499 it's overpriced and not worth it to get locked in for 3 years.

If you've been downloading apps and web browsing since you got it I dont doubt that you'd use alot of data

try to use WIFI connection if you can.. save the DATA for when your stuck out somewhere...

+1 to what they say. Though Wind's overages aren't actually all that bad compared to RoBellus' sphincter-explorations. You may find in the end that the $40 plan is much more worth it; I love mine (though I'm on a legacy $45 with more options) and easily go through 2 gigs or more a month.

They had me go through the phone setup in-store so they could retrieve the PIN. I only opened Gmail to take a glance and the Play Store. Phone tells me I've used 8.75mb of data, which is more reasonable..Wind tells me 70% has been used.

And yes, I stick to wifi as much as I can. Do you guys think the phone will chew through 100mb a month just by leaving the data on and allowing the phone to update the weather widgets, etc?

Graeme S 07-14-2012 10:39 PM

Depends on how many widgets you have updating. Best to (where you can) set to update on wifi only, and keep the widgets to a minimum. To be honest, most likely yes. Android is kind of data hungry.

I prefer using emweather (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d..._Weather&hl=en) 'cause it uses Environment Canada's stats which makes it especially more accurate for us here in Van.

!MiKrofT 07-15-2012 12:47 AM

100mb really isn't much. My work iphone will go through 10mb a day without me really using it. If it's only weather then you should be okay. Just turn off all other syncing.

my opinion is too late.

Honestly if you're gonna leave your wifi on all the time and have your apps set to refresh only when connected to wifi, its probably better if you don't even pay for data (if at all possible)

The Facebook app alone can eat a lot of data. I know a lot of people have a habit of just hitting the Facebook app when they're out and about, flipping through for 10 seconds then closing it. If you did that a few times a day for a week imagine how much data alone that is. This isn't even including your email, whatsapp, web browsing, widgets etc.

1.) glad you got the galaxy nexus. phone is solid, lots of support, and being a google phone, you'll constantly get updates even if you dont root/flash roms

2.) unfortunately you jumped to wind when the plans got a little less appealing. with regards to the wind tab, its as someone mentioned, it slowly gets paid off based on your monthly bill, and after 3 years its cleared

3.) 100mb is nothing... there are ways to make it work, i know a few iphone users that can, but android is a bit heavier on data... i have the unlimited data so i go crazy, but within the last few days i've already got abotu 200mb on fb alone, and thats going on, flipping through briefly, and closing the app.

but overall, good choice, and welcome to the club =D
