A/C is cold but not freezing cold Hi, My A/C is cold, but not super cold, although it is not lukewarm either. My car is 12 yrs old, I dont recall any A/C recharging before, or any A/C related problems. What do I make of this? Will doing a A/C recharging solve the problem or is this just normal to have a slightly less cold A/C in older cars. Or is this a thermal state or temperature sensor problem? I set A/C to Max LO in summer time. I do not use Climate control "AUto" setting |
Lots of info for you on this topic here. Most likely just need a recharge. http://www.revscene.net/forums/67081...ml#post7977056 |
How's the air flow? Probably not your problem, since your car is 12 years old, but if your car has an in-cabin air filter, it may be clogged. |
cabin filters were changed, air blows strong. still some coldness, but not super cold as before. I havent driven new cars in 2012, dont know todays ac standard |
Most likely your system needs a re-charge. Your thermal expansion valve could be faulty, has the receiver/dryer been replaced. it has desiccant balls that break down over time and can plug the system up. Check and see if your clutch is constantly cycling. |
standard check: - quick check and verify a/c is not blowing cold - evacuate refrigerant, take reading of how much was able to extract, recharge refrigerant, add uv dye - run a/c for a bit or take car and use it for a few hours - with uv light, inspect a/c system for leaks. - possible locations of leak are condensers, compressors, a/c lines, shraedar valves. thats the basics of the a/c system, there are more but usually that covers a good 70% of the problems. for more indepth, go to a shop that does a/c work. expect around 1hr to 1.5hrs of labour time. |
Sorry to thread jack.. but this is on topic.. Anyone know a reputable automobile A/C shop? I just got my A/C filled at one shop and it is still blowing relatively warm air and they say they need a couple more hours to look into the issue and they arent sure why its doing this.. at $90/hr i dunno how much i trust these guys to be doing exploratory work. If anyone knows a fairly priced and honest a/c place to take my car i'd appreciate it. |
