this sounds stupid but its not a hardware issue, click on calculator or another factory apple app on the phone like stocks, weather that sort of thing, once app is open hold the lock button till it offers choice to shut off phone, then hold the home button till it goes away, it may not be a permanent fix for all but does work!

Step 1: Navigate to, and launch one of the stock applications on your iPhone. If you don’t already know, the stock apps are things like weather, YouTube, stocks, settings etc (any that come as part of iOS).
Step 2: When the app is launched, press and hold the Power button located at the top of the device until the ‘Slide to power off’ appears.
Step 3: Press and hold the iPhone home button. Keep the button depressed until the Slide to power off slider disappears and the application quits back to Springboard.
Step 4: Your home button is now re-calibrated and should be more responsive for you. | ^. I think you were failed not because he didnt tried it. Its because it has been mentioned and you reposted (see the Quote).
Anyways, I tried the recalibrate method, it still doesnt work. After getting a new button , works like a charm.

Wasabisashimi, where did you get the new home button installed? Pricey? Does it feel like new, stiff and springy response?

There are like 5 of them in crystal mall. I just picked the busiest one. Button feels springy and responsive. No miss cue so far.

I just replaced an LCD/digitizer/glass and home button today on my boss' son's IP4. Actually not as bad to do as one would think. Just a lot of tiny ass screws. I told him I wouldn't do his power button though. He can take tiny in. Too many little freakin' plugs for that.

$40 isn't bad because when I went into the Apple store to see if they would replace my home button I was told Apple won't repair it but instead replace it with a refurbed phone. If you're under warranty it's free, if not you'll have to pay something like $150.

Just do what I do with my gf's iPhone, grab it so the speakers are facing down and then bang it a couple times on your desk or something. Worked like a charm for me. And if it's unresponsive again just bang it. She hasn't complained since. Sometimes I do it just for touch up.

I'd recommend itech wireless for your 4/4s repair. They honestly have the best prices in the city.
