Talking with co workers about this at lunch. The question was how much would you do it for.

if the stand in was from a poor family in some rural area, theyll gladly do it for probably as little as $200CAD or slightly under $1500RMB a month

LOL. It's the same in first world countries. you just have to be even more well connected, and sly about it.

there you can be open about it. here we have to be deceiving.

at least our shit is uncensored, and we can vote for more than one political party

bing 08-04-2012 09:11 PM

^we mainly have 3 political parties to choose from: Liberals, NDP, and Conservatives.

Not a great degree of choices and there's always issues with party discipline (i.e. marginal regions don't have much of a voice), but I suppose you could say its better than one party. The media here is censored too, what they don't report and how they report is just as important as what is not being reported.

Highlight the part in my post where I made a statement that I am "hating on western media". On the other hand, I sense an American patriot.

our shit is uncensored, but what selective news that they let us hear, is heavily manipulated and deceptive.

we get to vote for two sides of the same coin, and the percentage of people that vote is really low.

Good analogy. I should qualify my statement since we differ in our nominal definitions of censorship. I consider that when Western media companies manipulate, deceive and suppress dissenting opinions - killing stories, suspending reporters because they do not conform to party lines or the political views of the media owners - that is censure. I would agree that China is more repressive, but my point was to highlight that we don't have total freedom either.

A critical view:
"Censorship is often described as a removal of an individual or groups voice. Censorship is both an incentive and reason to the performance of certain expressions, attitudes, and behaviour, and how a society chooses to organize its system of social control. It contends that we have more to fear from the economic groups who have the power to control the media through ownership and advertising than the state itself. Mass media of communication is no longer a reflection of ideas in the community but are part of a class structure." <--- Inherent class bias and the perpetuation of dominant ideology.
