22 year old car, seems pretty normal to me

Gerbs 08-05-2012 02:29 AM

Anyone know the avg km/tank for a miata? also anything important to look for when buying one?

whEEls7 08-05-2012 03:24 AM

Yeah I think I'm gonna go for a miata too. I think I've fallen in love with them.

Hopefully I'll find something with 220ish kms max

bloodmack 08-05-2012 08:18 AM

s13's are totally reliable, easy as hell to work on and parts everywhere. Reliability is up to its owner IMO.

Volvo

Hmm... for under 2k, your choices seem quite slim. It's really a choice of cars that are at least 15 years old... Try searching craigslist and set your max price to 2k and see what comes up, that's usually a good way to find used cars at the price you'd like.

Also; I would recommend the Integra, good aftermarket parts and knowing that it's coming from Honda, the b18 can be quite powerful and reliable at the same time.

duy- 08-05-2012 10:56 AM

Didnt know the integra came with a b16

S13's are really reliable haven't had an issue with mine except for the battery... big deal haha. any car isnt gonna be "reliable" if the previous owner beat it to hell

Can anyone chime in also about the headroom? :okay:

I kinda want a miata but im 6'3 and only have a tiny bit of headroom left in a E46 M3

Convertible, problem solved :)

westopher 08-05-2012 11:15 AM

e30s, mk2 jetta/gti, mk1 rabbit/gti. All fun, albeit not fast, however, fun is much more important than fast unless you are a serious track guy.

rps13 08-05-2012 01:07 PM

perfect first car

I smashed my head onto the roof of a fiat when it went too fast on a speed bump.

There should be enough headroom, I'm about 5'9 - 5'10 and the stock NA seat functionally has no headrest, frankly it's a little dangerous if you were to be rear ended. A racing seat should easily get you the headroom you need but they're generally wider than the stock seat and can't go as far back as you might need for your legs. A lot of people like to remove some of the butt foam from the stock seat which I hear works great.

yep... drivetrain is pretty healthy but the body is just meh. repairable but hasn't really been a priority.
Impressed by how easy the car is overall though, easy to fix, easy to afford maintenance/mod/insurance/gas, easy to drive

Here it is 3 weeks ago at mission, thought something was wrong with the engine but turns out it was just the heatshield rattling

too_slow 08-05-2012 08:39 PM

240sx are slow, and owners feel they are worth a lot of $

I would highly recommend an Infiniti G20 / G20t

1999 Infinity G20

SR20DE engine, really good seats, lots of creature comforts, good sporty ride, and more importantly, extremely reliable

jlenko 08-06-2012 01:18 PM

For a first car... buy something you don't care about. If you're like most people, you'll end up hating it after a while anyway. You might be one of the many that end up doing crappy mods and hate those too.

Buy a cheap civic or crapalier and do it up. There's plenty of cheap parts around, and they're easy and cheap to fix when they DO break. I picked up a filthy dirty 2005 Sunfire for $1200 a few months ago... cheap and easy to sell for more than I paid, with a little TLC.

This.

First car, no N licence yet, you want a Volvo 240 for $500-$1000.
