News media gives sympathy for an older lady speeding???

So this lady was caught speeding 40+ km/h over the limit and the news seem more sympathetic in this case stating that excessive speeding penalties are too high in its title???

The news starts off stating how majority of speeders are young men/new drivers then shows this old lady. I mean I can somewhat understand why the bitch was speeding but still speeding is speeding... You will put someone else's life in danger.. "i knew i was speeding but it was safe speed..." what a dumb bitch. Also other arrangements should have been made for the husband to get home if she was that worried about him.

What a load of BS, the news is nothing but ratings.

53 is old lady? :suspicious:

ziggyx 08-15-2012 09:30 PM

^ lol sry meant older lady..

BaoTurbo 08-15-2012 09:31 PM

It's a load of BS the old lady is saying, yet she does have a reason to speed. A ticket for her should be sufficient but impounding the vehicle while a family member has also a heart issue and could require medical attention more frequently, I can sympathize.

The first change to enforce impound laws was so that drunk drivers had their cars impounded by tons of people who wanted drinkers off the road. However, it was taken advantage of and the limit was changed to an outrageous amount close to nothing. I think the limit now is 0.06-0.08? (avg 1 beer depending on body size and weight). Now impound lawas are enforced on speeding as well, not only drunk driving. On top of that, the impound fees are crazy expensive.

Like really? You're going to charge me for keeping my car hostage? And I'm supposed to pay on top of my ticket which I already feel bad for? :seriously:

I agree with the lack of consistency from the news media and its stereotype towards young drivers and modified vehicles.

I've said this before and I will say this again. I totally agree with the 40km/h over impound law, if the government decides to re-analyze the speed limits for all major roads.

Quote:

Seriously, highway 1 at 80km/h. On a bright sunny day, the average speed is 120-130km/h. You get tailgated when it's 110km/h. Does that mean everybody needs to get their car towed because apparently it is extremely dangerous according to the government?

Or how about the highway 91A, the part between Alex Fraser Bridge and Queensborough Bridge? There's a section where it's 60km/h. Seriously, 60km/h on a super wide and safe highway? How about we just get off the car and walk or take the bus instead? Oh wait, I forgot Translink is shit.

When I drive down to the states on I5, I actually follow the speed limit. Why? Because it is a fair speed limit. 70mph is around 120km/h, which is just about right for the road condition.
And this scenario. I'm assuming this is the 88th stretch that is near the Alex Fraser / 99A highway part. That part has no pedestrian. No residence (unless you count the hilltop ones) with super wide lanes and yet it's only 60km/h. I mean I don't expect the posted limit to be 100km/h but at least give that a 70km/h at the very very least.

Maybe they should re-think why 95% of the drivers here are not following the speed limits at all. Even an elderly lady thinks the road is safe to travel at such high speed. Go figure.

Hey, just like those porsches that were doing 130km on the sea to sky right?

They just about murdered families and put people's life in danger right ??
They must be scumbags for "speeding".....

Just becuase its over the limit doesn't mean its DANGEROUS in all scenarios. .. speeds around here are way too low anyways.

chill out.

You'd probably have to be a 100 lbs asian to hit the legal limit with one beer. For most people (160 lbs and above), it would probably take at least 3 beers to get there.

This blows my mind on how fukt up our new laws are. If you gonna penalize someone...why they need to double penalize them.

Impound the car...ok....then give them a heavy fine after? What's the point...we've learned our lesson...hitting them in the wallet when everyone is already struggling to meet ends meat is cruel unnecessary punishment.
Choose one or the other for fuk sakes.

I think speeding at 100+km/h in a suburban area in mid daylight has higher risks than speeding on the highway. Either way I think excessive speeding is pretty bad. I'm probably going overboard calling her a bitch but it's probably just the news media getting to me in this case.

optiblue 08-15-2012 11:33 PM

40km/h over and impound is just a cash grab. Nowhere else in the world does such a law exist! Just realize that BC is poor and money needs to come from us in fines!

I am actually around there LOL

Hitting people in the pocket book is the only thing that stops them

I know people who have gotten caught driving with suspended/no liscences 6-7 times, only now are they facing stiffer financial penalties..

Benz_05TSX 08-16-2012 11:08 AM

Everything the government do is a money grabbing scam. Look at aircare. For newer vehicles that runs OBDII, majority of the car`s emission shouldn`t even be a risk to the environment. Impounding car is a joke. I got my $400 beater impounded once because they suspected it was ``stolen`` due to the condition and it looked sketchy. It was $400, of course it looked like crap! Then they wanted over $2000 for me to get the car back because of the impound fee and whatnot. I told them to keep the car and have a Merry fricking Christmas.

The other day Global was trying to gain sympathy for a woman that was getting kicked out of her place for failure to pay rent. She couldn't find another 3 bedroom for $600...well, honey, you had one...and failed to pay for it, so what makes you think the next one will be any better?

The news gets really annoying sometimes.

Meowjin 08-16-2012 01:41 PM

damn, where the fuck was that?

radioman 08-16-2012 02:48 PM

$600 for a 3 bedroom? Where abouts?

Jgresch 08-16-2012 04:05 PM

Because they bought their tiny house during a time where housing was cheap.

They set a certain amount aside for retirement, then all of a sudden your neighborhood is pushed up rapidly in the last 10 years.

I have some sympathy especially if you set in your mind that you wanted to retire there.
