I don't know what's worse - him coming in and trolling on a sensitive subject, or others actually not realizing that obvious troll is obvious, and thus turning this entire thread's focus towards him....

Look, taking the dog hiking was a major mistake, but after that, I think he's being unfairly vilified.

So he goes hiking with his dog (that's the stupid thing, for how difficult a hike it was). Dog gets injured and can't make it down. Guy and friend try to carry it down, but it doesn't work. Guy calls 911 and they tell him, "sorry, we don't rescue dogs, only humans, too bad." Storm is coming, so he's forced to abandon the dog.

So he is forced to abandon the dog. What is he supposed to do next? He's already contacted the people in charge of providing help on the mountain and they told him that too bad, he's shit out of luck. He already knows he can't bring the dog down alone...

So basically the only thing that the second guy did differently was know 14 people who were able to help him get the dog down. Can you really blame the first guy that much for not having his own search and rescue team?

Spoon.ek9 wouldn't have had to because he would have healed the dog on the spot.:fullofwin:

If you don't treat your dog like a family member, I don't think you should have a dog. You wouldn't leave your kid on a mountain to die, would you?

They did not "know 14 people"....They went and FOUND 14 people...14 random people, simply off of a hikers forum.......Why is it that random strangers care more about your dog than you do?? Does that make sense to you? You think simply dialing 911 is making much of an effort to save your dog's life?....Come on....

vitaminG: you've also missed the part where he left the dog there to die for a few days. then when the dog was rescued, he said he wanted the dog back after having done NOTHING himself. the guy is a moron and i would slap him so hard if i had the chance. there's a reason he's being charged with cruelty to animals, it's not a matter of opinion anymore.

The dog whisperer has spoken :ahwow:

First of all, the guy is a moron for bringing a dog along. Secondly, if it was my dog, I would go back up as soon as possible with food/water. At the same time, I would be trying to find help. A couple "no's" should not stop you if you actually cared. I'll charter a helicopter if I have to. I swear, people need to be given an IQ test to own an animal.

I would not leave it to chance or assumptions that the dog is now dead.

i dont consider a dog to be equivalent to a human child. A dog is a member of the family but its not equal to a human.

he is a moron if he knew the hike would be too strenuous for the dog, he couldnt have predicted if the dog got injured.

I wouldnt have expected 14 strangers to risk their own safety to rescue my dog. from the sounds of it it was actually somewhat dangerous. i dont think i would personally have been able to do a massive hike the day after i just did one and bring a 100 lb dog back with me.

i just dont consider the guy evil, i know it doesnt sound like he did much, but theres only so much you can do.
