01 honda accord No power

the car has no power when we turned the car off the power locks wouldn't work didn't think it was a big deal... but now it wont crank at all the rear brakes and the horn work. had to get it towed home

when u turn key nothing happens at all no gauges or anything

Tried jumping it and checked the fuses

any ideas??

Did you hear a whine while driving home? Maybe your alternator crapped out and didn't charge the batteries, and it drained/died right when you got home.

There is a main fuse for the entire car in your engine bay fuse box (100A i think), it's a screw-in type. Check to see those aren't blown as well.

But the horn works?

No whining noise. The horn and rear brake lights work

alternator was changed 6 months ago
battery 2 years ago

tried jump starting the car that didn't work all the fuses are good only thing i can find online is the ignition switch might be broken

The ignition lock cylinder might need to be replaced then, you're right.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link other forums, but if you google "6th gen accord ignition switch" there's a hit on a popular honda tech site with a very good DIY.

Hope that saves you a bit of money. Unfortunately if you need the part right away you're going to have to bend over for the dealership

Ign sw. and ign lock cyl are two different things. It's usually the ign sw. that goes.

Check the main fuse, under the hood. Also, try jiggling the key while you're turning it on.

Older Accord but same priciples should apply:

I saw that guide I think he is talking about the same thing too going to try doing it today.. Hopefully can get the wire from junkyard if it needs to be replaced

It was the main fuse just couldn't tell in the dark

fliptuner 08-21-2012 02:55 PM

Is it possible that it blew cause jumpers were installed incorrectly?

Jas29 08-21-2012 04:02 PM

Jumpers haven't been connected to this car till that night and it was totoally dead had no power wat so ever
My uncle that came to help works on school busses hoping he knows how to use them properly

Before you start buying and replacing parts diagnose first. The harness for the ignition switch could have just come unplugged or many other possibilities.
