Need info about ICS upgrade

I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S2 X (Telus)
and ICS has been out for a while now, but I've been hesitant to upgrade to it.

I've read reviews and the list of new features, and it seems like a decent upgrade.
The only thing is that it sounds like once you make the upgrade,
there's no (easy) way to revert back to Gingerbread if you don't like ICS.

So before I decide to make the jump, is there anything I should be warned about? Or any reason to not upgrade?

I'm most worried that my apps or widgets will become incompatible.
I'm using Go Launcher, and all my icons are displayed using Elixir 2.
If those don't work on ICS, I don't want to upgrade...

I'm assuming most apps are updated to work on ICS now. Its jellybean that might potentially give you issues.
Maybe someone else can chime in as well

why cant you return to GB? are you rooted? if so make a nandroid backup in Clockwork mod then you're safe. hate JB/ICS? go back to CWM and restore.

Your Elixir 2 icons will stay on ICS/JB but the Go Launcher Widgets etc and functions will definitely not unless you install Go Launcher again when you update.

ICS is much better than JB imo. JB crashes about 20 times a day and it gets annoying sometimes, but of course its a ported early stage.

There's no reason to go back to Gingerbread at all. ICS is better in every way.

So if I just reinstall go launcher and the themes, everything will work just like before?

I'm a phone noob, so I don't really know how to do the things you described in your post...

I assume my phone isn't rooted I guess??

Yeah then your phone isn't rooted. If you have any GB Widgets you can't keep them if you upgrade to ICS of course but everything should be the same as for the launcher etc. If you don't like ICS you could just root and downgrade I think.

Azn,

I suggest you really read up on Android stuff to get a feel for the terminology.

look up ROOT and CLOCKWORK MOD and go from there. if you wanna mod your phone info is your best tool. if unsure ASK!

Is the JB UI noticeably smoother?

^ truth to this. You won't look back once you've upgraded. And you'd wonder why you didn't take the ICS pluge earlier.

To me; yes. But if you root it and get a crappy JB ROM you'll be like wtf is this shit cuz it'll crash 20 times a day. A lot of things are faster as well such as the loading of webpages.

:fullofwin:

i would be more hesitant about JB more then ICS...

I just read that ICS doesn't support flash...
Is that just temporary?

I assume YouTube will still work?

!MiKrofT 08-22-2012 10:15 AM

ICS supports flash as long as you download the seperate APK file. Youtube app is totally seperate and will always work.

Oh I didn't know that but yeah YouTube still works. When and if you root you should be able to install Flash Player by flashing it in CWM.
