Samsung found guilty pay damages totalling $1,051,855,000 "Samsung was found guilty of infringing on Apple’s patents yesterday and the jury declared they must pay damages totalling $1,051,855,000. Statements by both companies were released, clearly one very upset and disturbed, while the other incredibly pleased that the law is working to protect innovation. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, internal note to employees has now leaked online and he’s showing his enthusiasm for the verdict. Cook wrote some incredibly bold words, especially for one of their major manufacturing suppliers: “values have won and I hope the whole world listens;” and “Samsung’s copying went far deeper than we knew.”" By Ian Hardy on August 25, 2012 at 7:35am in Mobile News Source |
$1,051,855,000 / $500 each phone = 2.1 million units. That's nothing. I'd say Note 2 will be sold over 1 million units in one day when it releases next week. I bet Samsung doesn't really care much about. |
It's far from over and the actual amount may drop when it is. |

good thing Samsung doesn't only make phones...shit it probably only 5-10% of their worldwide business. 1B? they find that kinda money in their couch cushions. EDIT: also Fuck Apple. |
The $ amount isn't the important part. Apple has now set precedent in court that their ridiculous patents (like having a green phone icon) can be enforced, and it will be easy to go after everyone else for licensing fees. This will easily kill companies like HTC and LG who don't have Samsung money to defend themselves. Within 2 years, HTC will literally cease to exist, you wait and see HOWEVER The whole thing was a gong show. Being able to come to a billion dollar conclusion in just 3 days... And they basically made a blanket statement "All patents are valid" and awarded them for patents that weren't even infringed upon And the more they talk, the worse it looks for this verdict standing up. Complete and utter gong show.. suitable really.. The judge will have to throw it out, or an appeal will be made. |

apple is going to continue with this and have samsung stop selling their product on the market. that would be a bigger blow to samsung than 1 bill dollar. i believe though, if they bring the case to supreme court, apple won't stand a chance. |
also, since the judgement found that they "willfully" infringed on apple's patents, the actual penalty is triple that amount, so over 3 billion. it was announced yesterday that apple is now trying to ban the following from being sold in the US Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S2 AT&T, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S2 T-Mobile, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail. |
